Arnoldc
Awhile back ago, I asked if it was a good idea to put some sort of tree topper on my 2 "mega" trees. Everyone said I needed one.. With that in mind, and also knowing that these two trees will not exist next year (replacing them with a 14' weber tree). I wanted one that looked like a 3d star, without the 3d price. (will get a true 3d star next year with the new tree). This is what I came up with. I used foam that I had laying around, cut it and glued them together.. The star is 16" tall. Not too fancy, but hey, I hope it looks good.. Attached files

Arnoldc
Lights will go on soon prolly late Oct, or start of November.. I have to finish up my last minute Halloween stuff. Hard to do when all my Halloween lights are MIA.
Arnoldc
As promised. One star completed. It doesn't look half bad, however I think 100 lights per leg is a tad too much... But hey, more lights more better!! lol Video should be up in about 20 mins from nowhttp://vimeo.com/30411173
George Simmons
I agree with your assessment - it doesn't suck too bad at all. Fewer lights might give it better definition.
mmais68569
I agree WAY to many lights. Mike
Arnoldc
That's what I thought. Going to try 50 count lights and see how that looks
Arnoldc
Ok, here is the video of the other star. This one has 50 lights per leg, 200 total. What do you guys think?video should be up in 30 minshttp://vimeo.com/30468374
George Simmons
I think the second one is better. I wonder what it would look like with the lights poked into the foam (or through) the foam...
mmais68569
I think you need to slow it down so you can see that it is a STAR. In the video it looks like a ball of light.Just my opinion. Mike

Arnoldc
Alright, if I poke the holes, should I put the lights on both sides, so you would still see the wires? or just pick a "front" and be done with it?What I am worried about is weaking the star with all the holes.. hints why I have been trying it this way. Arnoldc
Alright, this is the latest of changes. I went ahead and followed the outline, then punched holes in the foam on either side. It looks a lot better..http://vimeo.com/30768939
