Chasing Lights

I'm not on my LOR box(they don't make it for Mac yet:(), but is there an easy way to program chasing lights without manually doing it? Someone suggested I missed something, but I've been doing this for a few years now, and have not seen it.

If someone knows and can get me instructions, I would be greatful, along with anyone else reading this thread!

I have this sneaking suspicion that I didn't update the software last year. :? Might have to go find the license number and pull down the new version.

Thanks Cmoore60

you usually don't need your License Number...just download the new version:

Thanks Jimswinder, always good to know. I'm used to Microsoft asking for their friggen license key everytime.

It did occur to me that this does not resolve one key problem: light rope. I was thinking about doing the chasing sequence that is common at arcades and what not. I could attach a seperate controller and just leave it on and plugged into the LOR unit, but I don't know if that would work. Thoughts, suggestions?

Don't know how you would chase "light rope"...

unless you had MANY individual pieces...

I had a hard time finding an example, but I have one. It's not the best, but take a look a few minutes in.

yeah...that's an RGB light strip...like the Cosmic Color Ribbon...not Rope Light...

I kinda figured that was what you meant...

I'm aware it's different hardware, but that's the effect I was looking for. I know ropelight manufacturers make their own controllers. http://www.christmaslightsetc.com/p/3-Wire-13mm-12-inch-6-Function-Variable-Speed-Controller-Maximum-Load-150-ft-8-Amp--14979.htm

Would this work if I left the switch on in the right position, and just plugged it into a LOR box?

I could be wrong (have been many times) but I don't think rope light has individual controlled lights in it...

EDIT:

Do you want something like this?

Yeah, something like that. The article you sent me to dictates that you need a controller like the link I sent you to. Now that we're on the same page, what do you think is the best solution?

I guess we need to nail down a few details first...

1) What exactly are you wanting to do?

2) The "Chasing Rope Light" I sent you does need a controller...but it sounds like it only controls it with certain patterns...like the old "twinkling" incandescent light strings, which you would have to set BEFORE your song starts...an LOR controller woul dnot be able to change the different chases

3) If you are wanting to control the color and when each individual "light" (pixel) comes on, then yes, you would need the RGB strips and a controller....

If it is option #3 you want, I would suggest an LOR Cosmic Color Ribbon as seen here:

I could be wrong, but the impression I got on both links below impress that you need a controller to do anything with them. I'm more than happy to call them tomorrow and verify this fact.

As far as the LOR option you presented, it really looks like they made a custom controller and alternative to rope light.

Sorry about the delay in posting, I'm working while I do this, and people often need hand holding.

BTW, I don't know why the second link is not working. I tried using the URL button and the manually entering the tags and it won't have it.

Yes they both need controllers...but they are using the word "controllers" completely different...

With LOR's Cosmic Color Ribbon, you actually can "control" it using the LOR software...

I doubt you can control the Chasing Rope Lights with LOR software (without modifying the Rope Light somehow)...the Chasing Rope Light Controller more than likely has a knob on the controller to select different options and hence picking different chase options...

What is the CCB? I've never heard of it. Thanks for your help.

or even wait for their new CCB's (look more like regular Christmas C6 lights) that will go on sale this month.

a string of 50 ct RGB LED lights encased in a bulb that is about the size of a C6 bulb...

you will be able to control each bulb individually for when it is on or off and what color you want it to be (of about 2 million different colors)

here they are in action:

Cost will about $200 for a controller, and 2 sets of 50 ct bulb strings
