Caleb Linburg Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 I was thinking of having an interactive button this year and was wondering if anyone know where you could get a big button to hook up. I want at least a 1-2 inch button and all i can find is like a 2 cm button.
jimswinder Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 How about one of these?http://www.minute-man.com/acatalog/Game_Switch.htmlafter you click on the link above, scroll down a little to see the BIG ones!! Attached files
Caleb Linburg Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 that looks good also I have 1 more question.Do you need a certain software to do interactive?
jimswinder Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 nope...just the Advanced License (I think) plus some other parts...check out this recent thread for all your answers:http://lightorama.mywowbb.com/forum80/25993.htmlEdit:Yep...need the Advanced License...see License Features Here:http://www.lightorama.com/ShowtimeSoftwareSuite.htmlLook under the "Show Editor and Scheduler" header

They hold up great. I did not bother wiring up their lighting, as they are all housed in a lit cabinet I built. You do need to protect them from water/snow/ice, but having a cover over them is fine.Greg
Nurples Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 How about a larger button! http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9181
jimswinder Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Nurples wrote: How about a larger button! http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9181don't know if these are really any bigger.... 60mm is 2.36 inches...as opposed to the other ones...2.375 inches...but I DO like the looks of them!!EDIT:Hmmm...their description must be wrong, becasue in one of the pics they have a "ruler" and it looks like they are nearly 4" across...

Greg Young Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Nurples wrote: How about a larger button! http://www.sparkfun.com/products/91812 plus inches is diameter is large enough for how I have mine setup! If I went any larger I would have to build a fairly large panel to place house all 6 of mine in.I need a good sized housing for them as it is, to allow for spaces between buttons. People reach through their car windows and push the buttons to make their selection without an issue. If I went with larger buttons it would be too much of a reach (length wise) to reach all 6, or the buttons would wind up being immediately next to each other.Even a young child has not trouble pushing a button this large....Greg

It gets pretty cold here, so I pretty much wrote off any plans to incorporate the interactive buttons into my show. This post gives me hope. Do you have a photo you'd be willing to share? I've been itching for a way to incorporate some interactive elements and this may be the ticket.
Greg Young Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Hi AaronYes they get a ton of use, even when it's cold and snowy out (like last year, certainly not this "winter", which has been more like fall). Here ya' go:Greg Attached files

Have to agree with you re: winter this year. It's been the easiest one I remember in a long time. So, do you let them interrupt your regular show with these? Or do you have a special time during the show when you enable these buttons? I'm toying with the idea of having a few props that are only operable via the interactive buttons. Maybe a candy cane pinwheel. Or a few minis. Or similar. Trying to get a feel for how the rest of the viewers react when someone in a different car changes the song. Or maybe you avoid that by using the jukebox setting.
Greg Young Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 They can use these anytime, and yes I use the jukebox setting, so they can only select a single song with each button. The song selected plays within a 1 or 2 seconds, and afterwards the show picks up where it left off (if in the middle of a song when the button was pushed it resumes with the next song in the show list). The kids love this feature, which is why as you can see from the music choices, all but one are geared to them. The rest of the show caters more to the adults.Greg
Aaron Maue Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Awesome. Thanks for the inspiration. Now to figure out exactly how I'm gonna but some new buttons to use.
