roknjohn Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 What color wire (green/white) do most people use when stringing mega trees? Just wondering what looks better in the daylight hours.
garyfunk Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I use green because, here in Colorado, our trees are green.Other than that, I'm not sure it makes a difference. But now you have me thinking about a white tree.
MikeA Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 really, once it's dark i cannot see a difference
taybrynn Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Green or white, but green is more common to buy and acquire .. so possibly cheaper as well.
dstevens Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 I use green. Easier to find replacements when strings fail.
drive Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 i use Green on our mega tree it dos enot show up as much as the white wires do !!
Fabian Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 I have used both but moving forward will only use white wire for mini trees, especially if they have multiple, different color strands of lights in them. The white helps the colors blend better (especially the way we install them), they reflect the more-directional LED lights and make the trees look brighter. We also feel they look much cooler during the daytime.I have received many positive comments about the white trees from other enthusiasts who have visited the display. In the photos below you'll see both kinds of trees. The older, green trees have 300 multi-minis in them (those trees will be replaced next year), and all the perimiter minis have 50-ct C6s, in white wire, in red, green, white, and blue. I was a little concerned about using only 50 ct strings in them but the white wire really helps bring them out. They are plenty bright.Snow-covered shot 1: http://www.gordonlights.com/Photos/ShowPhoto.asp?p=Fabian_06.jpg&t=/Photos/2009/Fabian_GordonSnow-covered shot 2: http://www.gordonlights.com/Photos/ShowPhoto.asp?p=Fabian_05.jpg&t=/Photos/2009/Fabian_GordonSide night shot: http://www.gordonlights.com/Photos/ShowPhoto.asp?p=Derek274.jpg&t=/Photos/2009/Derek_FengWhat it looks like "right now": http://www.gordonlights.com/YardCams.asp2009 Videos: http://www.gordonlights.com/Videos/2009.asp Fabian
Fabian Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Now, having said all that, I see that your original question was about mega trees. Mine are green wire. I toyed with the idea of replacing them with white but never got around to it. The frame structure is green and I'm sure wouldn't look good in white, and I don't think the effect would be the same as the mini trees given the spacing between the strands, so the green wire is probably where I'll stay on the mega trees. toymakr000 Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 I use all green wire because my display is small and there is stuff that needs to show through from behind it. I also used green because that's the lights I was able to come up with and they are easy to find if I have to replace them. Whit strings are a little more difficult to find.
George Simmons Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 I use green wire also. But one nice thing about white wire lights is that when you DO find someplace that stocks them they're almost always plentiful on after-season clearance.
Brian W Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 My strands are white because I use icicle lights.
