MistyB
We outline our yard with lights. We currently use the 9" light stakes that you can find at wal-mart or home depot. My problem is they are never straight or even and it bugs me. I hate that it looks like I just stuck them in the ground. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to outline without using these cheesy things.Thanks.Misty in Montana
kzaas
What type of lights are you outlining with?

kzaas
This site has this type and you can put one on each bulb so that they are all straight and in the same direction.http://www.christmaslightsetc.com/p/7.5-inch-All-In-One-Light-Stake-500-Pack--13740.htm
MistyB
We have used these same type the last three years, but with our soil being a little harder and such that they are no longer straight and heads no longer support the wieght of the lights. So I was looking for something a little more permanent that wouldn't have to be replaced every other year. Thanks for the suggestion though. rgardner518
You can try to what I did. I did it 3 years ago, and still have no issues. They are 10 ft long, and fold at the 5ft mark with hinges. Once they go in half I use little latches to hold them close, and I hang them on the back of a shed. I have 6 of them so far. And They work great!See here,http://lightorama.mywowbb.com/forum79/23566.htmlI make something similar for my strobes too.

I'll upload a picture tomorrow once it gets daylight, so you can see. My biggest ting is storage. And I glue the pve to an end of a threaded adapter, and thread it into a flange thats screwed to a 1'x 6" piece of pressured treated wood. And I can un thread them after I'm done and they all fit inside a tote!

However my ground is a little hard as well (clay) and I hammer an old long screwdriver in each location as a starter hole. Then I push the light stake holder in each starter hole. -klb-
We have some elements on tent stakes. At the park, we use a 1/2 inch dia, 12 inch long masonry bit in the cordless drill to make pilot holes in the hard ground.. Works much better. You might find suitable size for your stakes, and give it a try, if you don't like the other ideas.
