Kodak however makes the Zi8, and it does have an external mic jack.Has anyone had any luck with any of the "pocket" cameras ?Some others hear last year had good success with a Flip. I got one to try this year (love it already). Here is somebody's from last year:

The flare (light) also at the start is auto headlights coming towards me and glaring in the camera. The rest of the video is shot across the street from some of the houses in my neighborhood. Only houseporch lights and yard lampposts are on. There are no Street Lights, and no moon. Shot about 7PMhttp://s232.photobucket.com/albums/ee309/GaryBo42/?action=view¤t=MOV001mp4video.mp4That is one hell of a zoom!!!!! For what I'm wanting to do, THIS might be my camera! toddmoon
I did not have the time to grab my good camera so I wound up using my small cheap camera to take some video shots of the fireworks show I setup last 4th of July.Even the older cheap camera will work to some degree in low light.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN5VkkJ5b28 Attached files
Bob Wingert
Damn Todd! I'm more impressed with the fireworks than the camera!! You pyro you! HAAH. melwelch
It is not the hardware that determines the how good the output is, it is the user... Some of the best pictures in the world are taken on old equipment. All this talk about cameras yet no one has actually said "How do you take video's of Christmas lights"I do not care what camera you have if you do not understand how a camera measures light you will never take good videos.I have been taking videos of Christmas lights and fireworks (Fireworks shooter and pioneer of indoor fireworks way back in the 70's)...http://flashcannon.com/The light meter on a camera takes the whole image and averages the light for the entire image.... If you have an all black sky and tiny lights the camera turns up the gain to try to brighten up the large dark area. By doing so the lights get over exposed. That is why colored Christmas lights come out white... The gain has blown out the colors.... So what you need to do is turn down the gain to about -3... Experiment with your own camera... -2 to -3 is about right.Next shoot the video with the auto focus OFF! The lights flashing and the darkness will drive your auto focus nuts.... Use the zoom very little or best not at all.... Set up the camera on a tripod. Video the entire show from center stage, all the songs at one time... Then move the camera to the left or right and tape the entire show. Repeat on the other side.... Now you will be able to splice in the 3 camera shots together for each song and it looks like you had 3 cameras running.... Take your audio track you sequenced the song to and lay it down as your master audio track.... Bang you now have a professional looking video....Here is a video of the finished product....http://vimeo.com/8563881I use Adobe CS4 Production Suite for all my post production... One last thing I do is to turn up the color saturation in post production to give the colors a final punch....I hope I was able to help...Mel

toddmoon
Thanks for the invite. I dont know that I could make that one. I would be more than willing though to share the program sequence. This is a 5000 shot show of 3,4, 5, 6 inch fireworks that I manual fire over 45 minutes. I do have a lot of help and can not take all of the credit. It has been a lot of fun over the years. It does not seem to matter weather it is a 10,000 or 5,000 shot show most people do not know the difference. They just enjoy it.
