Okay - two questions:

I know I don't get out much, but who the hell is Snookie?

And why should I even care?

She is a "reality star" from a show called "Jersey Shore" (no, i DON"T watch it!!)

And NO, an old man like you (and I) should not care... LOL

WOW...from LED's to Snooki...only in America!!

She wants you George....you can tell from her eyes!!

She may want me, but unless she comes with a carton of condoms and a prescription for some heavy-duty antibiotics she isn't someone I'd pop a Viagra for...

I would agree with the LED's comments but the cost of them are to high. This subject has been hashed into the ground over and over. Cost to run my display last year was 60 dollars extra in electricity. it would take 8 to 10 years for the cost to catch up of the purchase of LED's instead of incandescents. I can get 100 mini's for 1.25 on sale, say 700 sets would equal 875 dollars. now say you got 700 sets for 6.00 per set(on the cheap side) 4200 dollars. I could buy the full amount of lights 3 times over and run the electricity for 10 years and still make out by 1000 dollars. So unless you need major power change in your house it doesn't work. I will change when the cost comes way down.

Hi all:

I switced all my C9s over to the dimmable leds the incandestent was putting too much on my controllers as for my minis I cant see switching to leds yet they still havent worked all the bugs out if you want my opinion and are way to expensive they will never pay for themselves before they die I can get 12 100ct clear minis at lowes for the price of 1 string of led minis

Just like I said, we seems to do a good job of morphing subjects. But thats just a sign that we as a group are fairly laid back. No one crying foul.. ;)

And note how quickly it flips back to LEDs from george's new girlfriend...:D

We should be seeing a cow joke from Jim any time now...

For you guys with thousands of minis, I can see your point of view to a degree about the cost of replacing all of your strings with LEDs. For us who are building up our display each year, then biting the bullet and only adding a few K of light each year. Along with all of the benifits make sense to me. Besides, it might only be as one person pointed out about 80 bucks more cost for the electricity that year, what about this and next and the year after that? Seems that everything is going up in price, esp energy cost. And then those who are expanding their display seem to be needing more sub-panels and that cost sure does help offset the cost of LEDs. I bet if someone had the time and interest and did a real cost analyze. The cost of the two might just balance out in the long run.

So, this leaves me with two things to think about. I dont have to worry about paint pealing / color fading. And dont have to worry about bulbs burning out at the rate that incans do. Yes, there are still failures with LEDs, I know one string on my arch burnt out. But I was able to figure out and replace the bridge rectifier.

But like you cant get me to sway to the use of icans, nor will I sway you to use LEDs. But I am trying to give info to those sitting on the fence to help them decide what they want to do.

Sarcasm on!

Converting to LED's would not only make Al Gore happy but all of the Global Warming Crowd too. Your carbon footprint would be less significant plus China will leap out of a recession.

Sarcasm off!

Hi All.

I would agree with you about the electric side of it if you had a static display but if you have animation the leds will not pay for them selves in at least 10 years this is what the experts have said go and look at planet christmas mag on the artical on leds. Your leds at this point will not last in the elements for 10 years. They have a debate going on now about leds the globes falling off the bulbs ends rusting right now if you want to be green use the retro C9s and The C6 leds and let them get the minis strighten out or the cost come down. as for colors almost all my minis are clear.

Don:)

Watch, we'll make it back to LEDs in a matter of posts.

I'm not so sure this time. The LED subject, except for the missing comments from the afore-mentioned nutcase lurker from New Jersey, has been pretty much beat to death - again. But now that Al Gore has entered the fray I don't think there's any going back. Unless Al is using LED's for some disgusting purpose in his massages...

Please AL gore is using halogen lights and fireplaces to light up his house. He is the biggest offender to his own cause.

George, Jeff must be on vacation or his computer is down. Because if he was on here he would have spoken by now. Someone please call Jeff to see if he is alright. This is so not like him.
