BlackwolfK9
I know a "dumb" controller can't control smart pixels. But can a smart controller control dumb rgb leds.
k6ccc
No. At least not directly. Some E1.31 controllers can output raw DMX which can then drive a dumb DMX controller.
Steven
Some E1.31 controllers can output raw DMX which can then drive a dumb DMX controller. My pixel tree uses a single SanDevices E682. One of the outputs is configured as DMX and connected to a cat5 cable, with a small 12v power supply connected to the other 6 wires. This cable goes up the trunk to a 27-channel DMX LED dimmer, which is connected to 6 strings of dumb RGBs, which are the star on the top.

EmmienLightFan
No. A smart controller cannot control conventional dumb RGB, but if you buy a WS2811 IC chip from Ebay, and connect a power supply and RGB lights, you get a $0.50 RGB controller, but it can only cope with small loads. This woud be cheaper than an RGB Dimmer, and allows it to connect in the same network as pixels, so it is quite nice.
