Ok, After doing 8 kits with no real issues I switched q16 and 17. Trying to get them out I destroyed them both. Any idea on where to get them around town. Like a radio shack or something. I wanted to throw the board in the air and shoot it I was so pissed at myself. Or will I have to buy them from LOR. arg.



Trying to un solder these things is like. blep bleep bleep.

Get the parts from Light O Rama....


To de-solder you can use a solder sucker, a wick or a can of compressed air when the solder is hot, be sure to use goggles.

OK, After calming down and wanting to have a few beers instead. I got q16 and q17 changed. Going to need one of each. I followed the trouble shooting guide.



[align=left]When Board is powered, transformer and/or Voltage Regulator(s) Q16/Q17 get very warm or hot There is a short somewhere. Check for solder bridges on both sides of the board. Make sure that voltage regulators Q16 and Q17 are not swapped. ( Fixed that messup.) If Q16 , the 5 vdc regulator gets hot, power the board off and try removing all the ICs that are in sockets. See if the voltage regulator still gets hot. If no, try replacing the ICs one at a time and powering the board.[/align]

[align=left]I found that the 8 pin IC chip was bad. I replaced with new one and it worked. YAH. :( Finally. So now I need a 8 pin IC Chip. My question was switching q16/q17 did that blow the 8pin IC chip? [/align]

It is possible that swapping the voltage regulators cause the chip to fry.

I would simply send support@lightorama.com an email and explain your situation. My experience is they will send you the parts. Just will take a few days for the items to get to you. No hunting and you KNOW you have the correct parts.

It is possible. Some of the circuitry that is designed for 5v will have been getting 10v instead. The IC chips are the most likely of the parts to be damaged by a higher voltage than they were designed for.

Got my awnser from LOR. I have built many kits but what a rookie mistake. Lets hear it ROOOOKKKIIEEE. :D

What fast responce time. Got to love LOR.

This has happened a number of times when people are building kits thus we have a pretty good idea what happens. By switching those two voltage regulators (5v and 10v) you put 10 volts into the logic ICs. Those ICs are rated at 5.5 volts max BUT what happens is that the 8 pin chip seems to short out first. When it does it starts pulling so much current that it protects the rest of the chips.
