DIO32 and DIO8RLY Question

Recommended Posts

I have emailed LOR twice now over a two week period and they seemed to have blown me off on this question, not very good way to run a business if you ask me. So I want to ask you all.

I recently purchased a 32 channel starter kit. My Halloween display is coming along quite well. I am looking to control three fog machines. It is my understanding that by purchasing a DIO32 and DIO8RLY I will be able to do this correctly. Being the newbie that I am, and no understanding of electrical work, I am having a hard time figuring out how to power the DIO32. After looking at the manual, I want to use:
Powering with 12 vdc -

12 vdc (± 0.5 volts) power to barrel jack JK1,
center pin positive

will the following adapter work to supply power:

Wall Transformer
12 vdc @ 1000ma

ps-d12-10-1000.jpg

(PS) D12-10-1000
Wall transformer. 12 vdc, 1000 ma, 120 volt, 60 Hz. Coaxial plug measures 5.5mm OD, 2.1mm ID and a positive center. UL / CSA listed.

(Info on adapter was obtained at http://www.surplussales.com/PowerSupplies/PowerS-18.html )

Was also wondering if anyone has any ideas as to a good housing unit for these two boards. I just want to make sure I can connect everything correctly before I buy them. Any help at all would be great.

Thanks

I find this hard to believe the staff at LOR are always helpful I have nothing but good things to say about the staff at LOR, if you had posted your question on this forum two weeks ago you may have had your answer by now, remember the staff at LOR will try to help you when all efforts on this form have been exhausted I find your initial coments are not warranted if you follow the forums and ask questions here you will find a lot people willing to help you out. an appolgy to the staff at LOR might be in order they run a fantastic buisness with some of the best customer service around rethink your post and watch the help you will recieve.

On this note I have no knowledge of the fog machines but I know there are a pile of people that do good luck.

Hard to believe or not it’s true....I don't know what else you want me to say. After spending $1000 on LOR products I think two weeks should be enough time to respond to an email. Also under the "rules" section it says "3. You always have the option of contacting LOR support by email: support@lightorama.com" which...is why I emailed them. I love the LOR products I bought and I'm not saying they are bad....I'm just saying maybe the customer service is lacking some. Anyways...this post isn't about debating the merit of LOR. Thanks though.

I can't answer your question either but where did you send your email?

was it support@lightorama.com or dan@lightorama.com?

Those are the ones I've used and always get an prompt reply.

support@lightorama.com both times

Can't answer your question but did you check your spam mail? My notice of the sale went to my spam mail. Just an idea. They are usually very ,very good about support. I have emailed them in the past and usually get an answer in a couple of days, if not sooner.

harleydpolice,

The adapter you listed will work. Make sure you remove the jumpers as specified in the manual under the "Powering with 12 vdc" heading. You can also use the on board transformer to power the DIO32 as specified under "Power with 120 vac"

Those two cards will work fine. I've been using fog machines with LOR for 4 years. I've been using 120 volt relays to controll my fog machines, This year was the first time I used the DIO line of cards. Feel free to email me for any help.

LightORamaJohn, thank you!! Now I can finally go ahead and purchase the boards. Would you also happen to know a good housing unit to house them in?

Unfortunately, we don't have a box for this device. It tends to be applied in custom applications with different numbers and types of daughter cards.

Have to agree with shfr26. I have emailed LOR support and have found that the email will go to my in box one time and spam the next. My confirmation on my controllers went to the spam box but I always check that when expecting an important reply or confirmation.

Usually when we do not reply to an email after 1 business day it is because a SPAM filter has intercepted the customer's email. Not this time. I found both your emails in the system and they were both some how were missed. I have no excuse.

We will look into the cause and try to prevent this from happening again.

Dan

EDIT: Now understand what happened. A few weeks ago we made a change to try to answer emails that came in on the weekend sooner than Monday. This new, (less than perfect) process caused some emails that came in on the weekend to be missed. Both of your emails came in on a Saturday.

Thank you Dan for your response. I understand that sometimes things happen that are outside of our control. I guess my main bug with that I thought I was being ignored. I was a little harsh with my choice of words so I do believe an apology from me is warranted. And for the record...... I love this product!

Thanks but no appoligy necessary. I think your comments were right on! I have no issues with any post where the person is honest and has no hidden agenda...

Best regards,
