ChrisBMacon Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 I need some advice before I buy some equipment. Is it feasable to keep all the controlers in one location (such as a trailer), power the trailer then route your a/c to each display? Reason asking, I'd like to be moble. I can feed the trailer a/c from a sub-pannel within 30 feet while displaying my home sequence. I just see it being easier to maintain the controlers if their all in a central location. Is this O.K. as long as my wire from the control can handle the amps at proper lenghts?Chris - Macon Ga.
PaulXmas Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 I don't see any power problems, as long as the power going in can handle the load.Trailer full of controllers....ummmm what is your address? hehehee, someone driving away with the trailer would be my concern!
ChrisBMacon Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 But see, I have a sign in the yard: "Dog O.K. Beware of Owner!".
bwaldrep Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Just keep in mind, you will have to run a power cord for each channel out of the trailer to each display item. Many people have all their controllers together, verses having them spread out, but it typically requires more extension cords.I prefer to have the controllers spread out, but it is a matter of personal opinion.
PaulXmas Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 I all my controllers in the same location last year.I only had 2 but I discovered that if you can secure them, it is better to put the controllers close to where they will be used.Ever 1 foot closer to the display is 15 feet of cords you don't need! This year I have 5 more controllers and I think I can get away with using a few rolls of SPT wire and the extension cords I have. I Will be mounting them closer to the area they will be controlling. sure he has enough extension cords...he will be buying a bunch in Nov. Ummm maybe I better buy some more...

Controllers mounted to the plates. Mucho work to remove controllers or the mounts. Thus all controllers as close as possible to display. Yet, a fair amount of SPT wire used between controllers and lights. I would hate to thing of the amount of wire used going from central location to display. Dang talk about expensive.
jimswinder Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 I only had three controllers last year in the garage...but nearly 1 mile of SPT-2 extension cords.Going up to 33 controllers this year and I am planning on putting them out in the yard close to what they will be operating and hopefully all the SPT-2 wire I bought last year will be enough for the extra 480 channels...
