CTB16 PC firmware question

I started putting together the CTB16PC controllers I bought at the sale. I noticed that they showed up in the hardware program as v4.4. So I figured I would update the controller I got last year to this version as it is v4.3. On the website it shows v4.3 as being the current version.

Am I reading something wrong or is there another place to find the most current firmare? How important is it to update the firmware? This is only going to be my second Christmas so I am relatively new at this... taking the leap to 96 channels this year from 16!!!!

One more question... after I put it together, when I plug one of the power cords into the outlet, the red light comes on (flashing). However, if I only plug the other chord in no lights come one. Is this normal or did I do something wrong?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I admit that I haven't fully researched the difference between the 4.3 and 4.4 firmware. However, there is no reason at all why they would not work together. LOR is very flexible when it comes to what version of firmware that is running on your boards. You could have 10 boards with 3 versions of firmware in your display. The only real problem that you would run into is that some boards (with older firmware) might not be able to process some of the newer lighting commands sent to it. (And I want to say there is a hardware based reason for the 4.4 being on the boards, but I don't recall what it is/was.)

As for your second question ... the logic is controlled by the right side of the board. So, when you have channels 9-16 plugged in, you the logic on the controller is powered up as well. Plugging in channels 1-8 only powers up the channels, not the logic.

4.32 is the current latest that I am aware of for CTB16PCV1 boards. All that was added to 4.4 is support for a few slight differences on the CTB16PCV2 boards... Eventually I expect a new version to come out that will be available for both versions of the board.

Thanks for all the responses. I guess the old saying is true... if it ain't broke don't fix. I won't worry as long as everything works!
