jfelix Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Not sure what the issue is yet. Haven;t had a whole lot of time to look things over good but lets start with problem one. I have a 16D controller roughly 3 years old. It has worked great to this point. I decided to use it for some floods to play with some lighting ont he house. The controller powers up and the LOR hardware utility recognizes it. When I turn the floods on (there are 4 on this controller) nothing happens. 2 months ago the controller worked great for the 09 show.I have tried running it inthe sequence editor, nothing. Set up and ran a show, nothing. Chase in the LOR hardware utility, nothing. Suggestions welcome before I dive into this.Problem 2. I also have an 8 channel controller, agan worked fien for the 09 show. Plugged it in to do the same as above. Controller lights up, gets recognized by the hardware utility. As soon as I turn the lights on int he hardware utility it blows the fuse on the controller. I looked it over and didn't notice any wires touching or anything. It will most likely be this weekend before I look them over so if you have any ideas on what I should look for please share.
huskernut Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 First thing i would do is figure out problem 2, it might be the only problem you have. Could there be a short on one of the floods? You can test them one at a time in a regular plug?Is the 16D wired with 2 input plugs or just one? If it has 2 and you have them both plugged in, one powers channel 1-8 and the other powers 9-16 plus the electronics. If you have a shorted flood and you hooked them up on the lower sides ( 1-8 ) you could have blown that fuse but the electronics ( including the red led ) would still be working because it is on the 9-16 side of the input power.Good luck and let us know what happens.Rick

But your confusing the questions. The person has two different controllers. one is a 16 channel that does not respond, and the other is a 8 channel that keeps blowing fuses. I believe I should help to clear this up.
jfelix Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 Rick made a good call. I don't know why I didn't think of the light having a short. BUt I checked the lights out and one had a short. I was thinking controller problem, boy was I wrong. The 8 channel was blowing fuses due to the bad flood light. The 16D was blowing one fuse (like Ric thought) where channels 1-8 are located. Therefore it still had the red led working. So I switched out the fuse onthe 16D, disconnected the flood and presto. Thanks Rick. I guess I didn't think the flood was an issue becuase I used it too. After inspecting the cord for the flood, it looks damaged and needs to be rewired.
