Denny Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Was thinking about using multiple speakers throughout next season's display that could be switched on and off at different times and locations throughout the display. If the DC board electronics were attached to a 12 volt transmitter through the barrel connector, could speakers be attached to the sixteen controlled circuits and LOR be used to turn them on and off at the appropriate times? Or would I smoke the speakers (or damage the board)?
Fabian Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Are you looking to use the 12VDC to switch relays on and off?
Ponddude Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 He is correct, I wouldn't attach them directly to the DC board, but rather use relays to isolate the board from the speakers. That should work ok but do realize that most sound systems use low voltage AC, not DC.
Denny Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 Was thinking about just using the DC board, not relays. But then, I didn't realize that AC current was involved so guess that plan is out. Looks like it is back to the drawing board. Thanks for the warning about AC voltage.
