The display covered two yards in '09 and on some videos you can see the neighbor's yard also. I did all the decorating and wiring - he basically just let me use his house and property as an extension of what I did in '08. I've gotta say that he definitely got a helluva lot of notoriety for about five bucks in electric.

Can I ask what they are and how you did that?
George Simmons
I call those fence snakes. Channel-eaters to be sure, but they make for a cool effect. It's 18 channels on the north side of the house (left) and 12 on the south side (which I'll upgrade to 18 this year). The lights are blue 50 ct mini LED's that are zip-tied to the top edge of the chain link fence.

The use of the eyebrows is really cool.Thanks. That Robin Wheel was one of the biggest hits last year. It lends itself to so many things, and I've probably only scratched the surface. Yes, it can be a real sonofabitch to sequence sometimes but once the patterns are created, it then becomes an exercise in copy & paste. Anyone can make something go round and round - I wanted to do more than just spin it.As for the face, I'm still learning as I go on that too. I'm planning to upgrade it a bit this summer which will give me more expressions and more things that I can use it for. But I think you're right - it's all about the eyebrows. They're both rousing pieces of music and they're easy to get into and have some fun with. Plus, they have a great recognizability factor. I'm looking for a few more themes to add to this year's show. I used 5-0 to give things a kick-start coming out of a voice only announcement. I thought it made an almost perfect segue.

But it looks like just one bulb is comming on as it chases.I'm not sure if I garbled the description of what the "fence snake" is. I've seen two other displays in the past who have had something similar running along the ground, but that wouldn't work under a foot of snow so I used the fence. After I conjured up how I wanted to do it, I measured the distance from the house to the corner(s) of the fence and then divided that by six, and that became the length of each section. Each section is one set of lights. In the garage, I drove a couple of nails into my work table that distance apart and wound a set of lights from nail to nail. I then zip-tied the lightset into that shape and then I zip-tied each section consecutively along the top edge of the fence. There's 18 sections on one side of the yard and 12 on the other and each has a separate channel. So yes, on the driveway side of the house it is essentially 18 sets of lights turning on and off quickly. Your description of how it appears tells me I achieved the look I set out to create. Thanks.Jim,The face has the distinction of being the first of it's kind, as far as I know, and has surprisingly become somewhat of an icon. But I'm not sure it's cooler than the Weber Tree. Maybe it's related to your neighbor's horse always being greener or something, but I sure wish I had a radio tower stuck in the ground somewhere in the yard...
