CMB-16D LED Question

The DC card switches the return to ground path, so it can only be used on common positive configurations, which would be common anode LEDs.

So, from a relative newbie at this - and someone who probably only knows enough about electricity to get him into trouble, could someone tell me if I'm understanding this correctly? If I have a simple single DC led string, I could control it from the DC controller (e.g., there is only a positive and negative, and I just need to make sure I get them right). But if I have a RGB "string" or light for which I'd like to control the three colors (or mix them), I need to be aware of whether that "string" or light is common anode or cathode (because most will tie either the positives or the negatives together?)? Because if it is common cathode, then the DC controller won't work? If there is an existing thread out there, point me in that direction. (I do see in the CMB-16D manual it states "The positive outpus of a bank are all tied together . . . to the positive power input.") I'm looking for clarity because I was just about to pick up some RGB lights and there was a note stating that they were common cathode and if you wanted common anode, you had to specify that when purchasing.

Thanks,

Galen

Correct, You need to ALWAYS buy RGB LED's with a common Anode if you want to control via LOR DC cards.

Thank you, that confirms what I thought I understood. Maybe I'm picking up a bit more of this that I realize :(

i still dont understand, i purchased led light at walmart after christmas how do i tell if they will work or not

Robert,

What we are talking about is a lot of people are starting to make there own LED lights from scratch. Theses lights are bought directly from vendors and not from super stores. I think what you are talking about are the LED lights that are on a string. These that they sell, are strings of lights with a plug, and plug directly into your AC controllers.

What the previous thread is talking about is DC controller that we hard wire directly with lights we make. If you are talking about a LED light such as a pond light which some stores sell, theses are DC. Than you need a transformer along with a controller to make that work.

I hope I am not confusing you too much. Maybe if you let us know what kind of lights you bought, we can help you better.

Question - while sequencing on one of my 22" monitors and video playing on the other 22" monitor that I have already renderd to be used with the sequencing, in other words lights, music & video, I can not use the space bar to stop the sequence. I have to hit spacebar, stop or stop, spacebar very quickly to get it to stop at that point. It works sometime. In preferences, I have shut off the display video and still no luck. Just throwing this out to Dan & Bob as a FYI. Thank you kindly.
