Guest guest
Alright, I going to face the fact that I am pretty much tone deaf. My first song sequencing is Jingle Bells, a very simple instrumental. I tapped it out, made my adjustments, and I'm still off in parts! This is the most simplest song to sequence! Arrgh! Now, don't get me wrong, I loved sequencing. It was a blast. I was born with out the beat gene. I think it is my parents fault. I read somewhere: that if a child is not exposed to rhythm and the beat that they never will obtain the wonderful sense of rhythm! Me! Me! Me!Oh, no! That means my three kids are doomed! I am doomed! My wife can't help, my son can't help, my two daughters can't help, and even my wonderful dog can't help. What am I to do! I have my next song to sequence, an Andrae' Crouch song. It is very cool song, but my stinkin' ear can't figure out the beats! We need to start a club, because most people don't understand the problems we face.Who wants to join? What are ways we can compensate for this aliment?I'll start:Make friends with people on the worship team at church. Invite them over for dinner. Then, comment how you got this cool program and controller that can make lights dance to music! Ask them if they want to see it, and before they know it they are tapping out the beat! TAP, TAP, TAP! They are checking out your sequences already done. Heck, you offer to let them spend the night, while you go outside and was their car with a flashlight! You offer to go to work for them if only they will stay a little longer. You'll fill their car up with GAS!What can you come up with to add to this list to help us poor rhythm challenged souls?Michael B
Guest guest
Michael Bsomething to try, get couple small Speaking and put your finger Speaking to feel the beat.or get the ML1C - Music Lights Kit from Ramsey and visible see the beathttp://www.ramseyelectronics.com/cgi-bin/commerce.exe?preadd=action&key=ML1CJerry Plak

Guest guest
Hi Michael... I don't know who has it worse, you or me. When it comes to music my attention span only lasts for a few seconds. Consequently I don't hear music and I don't have an ear for music. For me music comes in one ear and out the other without me hearing it. Good luck on your next project. I can tap out a beat and think I have it right, then when I play it back with the animator - Oops off again, but I have trouble fixing it.I absolutely love sequencing, I just wish I had some else's ear.Anyone want to loan me theirs?Michael B
Guest guest
You might try simply doing the song by ear/sight rather then trying to use the tapper.I didn't have much luck getting a tapped sequence to be spot on. I do everything manually. It may take a lot longer but it is much more accurate.Michael B wrote: It's funny. I close my eyes and listen to what I hear and then replay the video.I'm trying to train my brain to picture what I hear.I was in church yesterday: During the time the band plays, I have my eyes closed and I am trying to sequence in my mind. It helped. ( I hope God doesn't mind.)Michael B
Guest guest
What I do do help me get the beat timing down correctly is I have a C9 Bulb right by my monitor and hooked up to a LOR controller. When Sequencing a new song, I create a "Beat" Channel and assign it to my C9 Bulb. You can get a much better feel when using this method. Sometimes something may look good in the animation window but Having a Bulb go on and off to the Beat will get you a lot closer to the correct timing. Also this method is a must if you are doing Fades on and Off with Beats since a lot of times these look different with real bulbs than in the animation window.Another trick that I have started is using a BPM program. A good free one can be found athttp://www.mixmeister.com/download_freestuff.html(put in a bogus name and e-mail if you don't want them to spam you)I started using .04 timing which means I have 1500 Events or "cells" per Minute. Lets say my BPM timing is 154.34 - What I do is take 1500 and divide by 154.34 which gives me 9.7So every 9.7 cells I should have a Beat. you have to do some trickery if you don't end up with a whole number. What I do is round to the nearest .04 so in this case it would be 9.8I would then figure out a pattern where it would be as close to 9.8. In this case I would do 10 10 9 10 10 9 etc. (that is place a "beat" at 10 cells, place another one at 10 more cells, place another one at 9 cells, repeat)10 (Ahead .02 based on 9.8)10 (Now Ahead .04 based on 9.8)9 (Would Minus .04 based on .04 timing, now back on track)If it starts to drift (say at 30 seconds) you may need to back it up or place it forward a cell and continue from there.Clear as Mud? Guest guest
Richard,You just went way over my head!I felt like a hurricane just blew by me!Wow!Wait one is coming!I will have to read this post over and over. I will get someone to translate. It sounds really good, but...Hey, we could start a new movie:Clueless In Eustis!Great try, but you do not know with whom you are typing to.Happy, but head of the Tone Deaf Club!Who wants to join?Michael B
Guest guest
Hey Michael,Here's an idea. Get a glass of water and place it next to the speaker. Crank the music as loud as it will go. When the music starts, keep your eye on the glass of water and when you see a ripple, that's your beat. Then click the mouse really quick.I would think the only people you might disturb is your neighbors (since everyone else in the house is tone deaf) so I wouldn't do this in the middle of the night. There you go, problem solved.Hey, no need to thank me. Just send me Christmas gifts :].Tom
Guest guest
Maybe, if you crank the music up loud enough, it will just click the mouse for you. It may just annoy one of you neighbors enough that one of them will do it for you just so you will stop.

Guest guest
Sorry if I sounded a little complex. I am hoping that LORII will have something like a BPM counter so you don't have to do this kind of math (I hate math but will use it if I have to). There are some features they could build into LOR that would make it a lot easier for people to try and get a beat. I heard LOR is coming out with a new addition to it's sequencing capabilities next year to include the beat gene button :]. (now how cool is that?) You can ramp, twinkle and shimmer this option from my understanding. (Dan, back me up on this one, ok?) It's a simple upgrade and should work fine with any LOR sequencing software. (uh....hey....Dan? :]) Oh, and it comes with an amplification software (which is still in the testing phase) :].So, can you send me the tracking number for that shipment please ?Tom
