Guest guest
As many of you know, YouTube sometimes removes the soundtrack to copyrighted material used in videos we upload there. Well, there is a way around this.If you raise or lower the pitch of the song 6%, their software can't find the song. It does make the song sound slightly different, but not that much. It takes a song up or down 1/2 step (like from C to C#).I use a program called Audacity. I import the song in and choose "Change Pitch." Then just enter 6% in and let it do its magic. Then just re-export as an MP3. It doesn't change the length of the song at all.The first two videos i uploaded this year on YouTube I didn't change. So when you watch them, the song banner comes up and I was warned that the music may be removed. The other 6 songs I changed. I got no warning and there's no banner on the videos.#1 "We Need a Little Christmas" by Johnny Mathis#2 "All I Want for Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey#3 "What Christmas Means to Me" by Jessica Simpson#4 "Christmas Can Can" by Straight No Chaser#5 "Carol of the Bells" by David Foster#6 "The Christmas Blues" by Dean Martin#7 "Blue Christmas" by Elvis Presley#8 "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" by Judy Garland
George Simmons
In my opinion, the best way to trick YouTube into leaving your videos alone is to post them on Vimeo instead...
Guest guest
Well, a lot of people already have accounts at YouTube and since it only happens with videos you've attached songs to, I think it's an easy workaround. I personally don't want my videos scattered all over the net.

Guest guest
Gosh, I thought I was offering some good advice to those who wanted it (since there was some concern about this elsewhere on the board). I had no idea I'd see such ungratefulness. Why is it important to you guys to say something negative. If you don't want to post on YouTube, don't. But you don't need to make me feel bad for trying to be helpful.
jerryb721
I thank you for your info!!!Better chance of your videos bring watched on YT than Vimeo I think.Actually I can't remember any video going viral on any other site but YT.I've already heard of Vimeo not letting songs go through for the copyright issue.I was getting some through by letting the freeway noise at my house stay in the audio. Not great sound but got them through, so your experiment might help me and others in the future. Thanks again.BTW you're in L.A., where abouts? I live the the SF Valley and would like to see other peoples light show live (next season of course)
Guest guest
Thanks Jerry. I'm in Valley Village near Riverside and Laurel Canyon. I heard there's another LOR guy in Sherman Oaks who works on commercials and has video in his, but I haven't seen his. I think it's pretty rare out here as everyone seems totally surprised by it when they see it.It would be nice if LOR could post a map of where their users are. jerryb721
The guy is Sherman Oaks does really nice work but I think he is in the entertainment business. http://lightsondisplay.comI think he is the one who makes the Santa Symphonies video.I just found out about a guy in Simi Valley as well and this guy http://www.youtube.com/user/kumbaric is in ValenciaNext season we need to share addresses.I'm on YT as well, same user name as here jerryb721The map idea is great, maybe LOR will see this and think about it

It's not a map but is better than scrolling the members to see who is in the area. Of course that only works if they have the info in there! They don't have the detection engine like Youtube but it's probably coming.
Guest guest
Well this workaround is fairly simple. I don't know how much more difficult it is on a PC....I use a Mac.

What's ungrateful about offering an alternative to making your music sound like the mouseketeers band? Given the number of synchronized lighting videos on Vimeo these days it seems like a LOT of people don't feel warm fuzzies toward YouTube and their absurd and inconsistent copyright police action. Am I mistaken or didn't TSO host a decorating contest of their music on YouTube - the same YouTube that mutes TSO music today in synchronized lights videos? If you want to defend YouBoob for that I'm all ears... and while you're at it, maybe you can explain to me why they allow pirated copies of Pink Floyd performances and then turn around and flag my personal use of legally owned Pink Floyd music? At the time you posted the comments I quoted above, I can't see any way where I (or anyone else) had said anything negative. But you can put your helmet on now, because that's about to change in the next couple of sentences. If you want to attack me for saying negative things then maybe you should first correctly identify a negative comment. (I'm sure I've made them although I don't recall making one to you before today.) It looks to me like you're the one feeling negative here, and maybe even slightly paranoid. Perhaps you should go see your doctor or your neighborhood bartender. They both have elixirs for people who feel bad about imagined slights and for people whose feelings are too sensitive to make it in the real world, or who go flying off the handle before getting their facts straight. jerryb721
Sorry to tell you George but your original comment did have a negative tone to it, which in part was why I made my comment thanking him. That I also still use YT and liked the idea of not leaving the freeway sound in my videos to defeat the copyright issue. Sometimes it is how it is written not what it says that makes it negative.Besides if you watched his videos you will see they did not sound like mouseketeers.I also think what you have just written was way to much and you took it to a personal level that should not be done on this board.I have seen many posts from you and I don't recall you having such a strong reaction to someone else as this.Maybe you need to take your own advice"They both have elixirs for people who feel bad about imagined slights and for people whose feelings are too sensitive to make it in the real world, or who go flying off the handle before getting their facts straight."Come on man, after you calm down a bit, don't you think that was a bit strong? I rest my case.Raising the pitch 1/2 step does NOT make anything sound like mousekateers. You should really research before you stick your foot in your mouth.
