jcwarren Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 We are suspicious that a couple kids have ripped our lights off of our fence yesterday. The cord on one end of the strand was shredded. One the other strand the connections came unplugged and was bent, but it broke and pulled the wires out of the socket. So that string doesn't light. Not very happy if this is going to happen again. Its a lot of work and money for some kids to tear things up. We live out in the country also, so not too many neibours. Does anybody have security cameras, or would that be over kill?
George Simmons Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 I think there's quite a few people who have security cameras. And no, I personally don't think it's overkill at all. I'm someone who would like nothing more than to catch the vandals and lynch them.
Guest Don Gillespie Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 Does anybody have security cameras, or would that be over kill?I have 3 of them and we let people know we have them, haven't had a problem for 5 years.
warcraft Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 i dont think its over kill eitheri have 18 camera's
PaulXmas Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 I have cameras as well.DVR goes none stop when the lights are on!
jcwarren Posted December 20, 2009 Author Posted December 20, 2009 It is very rare to have deer down here in the valley, although it can happen. I also questioned that theory. So for the people that do have cameras and have had problems, have you ever caught somebody doing something and could prove that it was them? Did anything get accomplished?
csf Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 I had some one steal a few candy cane off there lights, left the light took the plastic once a few years ago.Luckily have had no other issues.*looks out winnow, well if you have a way to make snow, 24 inches of snow over your lawn should keep people from getting to your stuff.
PD1057 Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I had security cameras on my display at my old house, but they were part of the house security that stayed with the house when we sold it.The house we are in now doesnt have cameras, but my sign that says what FM station to turn to has a little spot at the bottom that says "Display under video surveillance" Been here three years and havent had anyone mess with anything.

-klb- Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 The city park display has a sign stating that high voltage is present at all times. Of course, the display is under some transmission lines, possibly 0.5M V lines. If that doesn't qualify as high voltage present at all times, I don't know what does...
PD1057 Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Heres another "idea of the week" for you...if youre wanting to give the illusion of cameras on your display. Take a couple of red lights out of your junk lights pile, and stick the probes into some cheap gauge speaker wire. Take the sheath off of the other ends and separate them. Tape one end to the positive, and one end to the negative of an AA battery. Dont know how long it will last, but it will give the illusion of cameras if strategically placed.
ItsMeBobO Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Found some mischief last night for the first time in 4 years. I noticed some lights were out and looking around found an extension cord across the sidewalk. Then two others were pulled totally out. Someone was apparently running through the yard and dragged cords with them. Got it all back in a few minutes and no real damage.
Dan Lott Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Hey guys not hijacking but wanted to know what kind of video camera system would be a good one to get into. I work out of town during the week and last monday morning when i was leaving i noticed my dontaion box was gone. Im guessing kids but thankfully there was no money in it. Have an awsome neighbor that rebuilt me one and get me back collecting donations but now i am thinking that i want to do a camera system that goes on at night. That way i can watch back on it and see if i can get a look at whos causing the trouble. I have been doing lights at this house for 3 years and this is the first problem i have ever had. Got smart though the old box was in the ground about 3 feet and had to been ripped out with a truck so now have one that slides in a sleeve so i can take the box in every night.
