JediKnight2
I drove around this evening and well...I just don't like ANY of the LED stuff....it's just too....SOMETHING...just doesn't LOOK right for some reason...can't really put my finger on it either...had my 9 year old say the same thing to me about them..she said they hurt her eyes...??? Like they were little lasers on her. What are your opinions on these little gems...Personally...I am ANTI-GREEN...so...I can't really relate to that part of it... Tim Fischer
They've really grown on me over the past 4-5 years, and we've been phasing them in slowly. I've come to like the vivid, non-fading color. Also, I doubt your "anti-green", unless you advocate pouring motor oil in your drinking water source and making the planet a worse place for the next generation. What you probably are is like me -- you don't buy into the " be green at any cost or the world will surely end " hype, but you like to see the planet healthy. JediKnight2
You are correct Tim...I think we should take care of the Planet...but I most certainly don't' buy into the end of the world scenario....escpecially the part where all of these "drastic" changes are caused one hundred percent by humans...this all coming from an Environmental Biologist....LUCKILY I got a minor in Geology to give me half a brain to see this has all happened before...and there isn't a dang thing we can do but go along for the ride....but you are correct...I am for being responsible.......I don't think that dumping my incandescents is in my future though...maybe it was just such a STARK difference between the other houses...maybe if I could see a whole street with LED's...it wouldn't look .... so...different. Rick Hughes
I've been very slow to try LEDs (and with more than 3,000 C7s I have a lot of potential energy savings) ... with a small number this year. For me, each color seems to have a vast difference in intensity (some to the point of blinding, and others [yellow] barely visible). I noticed them particularly on a house in the distance tonight - some colors were vivid and there were gaps where the other colors should have been (and probably are but weren't strong enough).Fortunately (or not) my display has only a single color on a channel and I've toyed with using various power settings to even out the intensities. It works, and I like the ultimate color palette ... but it's a huge drain of time.At this point I'm sticking with incandescents for Yellow and Clear ... but the others are quite striking when not in their full blaze of glory. The big-box store's yellow are as you describe-- very dim.
George Simmons
I might as well chime in defending LED's to counterpoint Jeff Millard when he sees the thread title. Personally, I like the brilliance and the starkness of their light. I do wish there would be a bit more conformity in the brightness though. I've got some half-wave sets that are just as bright as the full-wave models and then there are some that are much dimmer than full-wave sets. But I like knowing that my blues will be just as blue next year. Not to hijack the thread, but Tim - what is your take on doing business with Travis this year? I've never bought lights from him before and I have to say that I've been totally underwhelmed with his customer service and his lack of veracity. -klb-
We have about 1,000 each of the Minleon red, green, blue, and sun warm white C7's, and so far, we really like them. I think we will be converting the fire house itself to them next year. The biggest down side I see to them is that they are more directional, so if the viewing angle is somewhat from the back, they are dimmer, but for the most part, they are a surprisingly close match. Rafter Bar R
I like the vivid color of LED's and they don't fade like bulbs did. Also many of the effects work better with LED's than with bulbs. The quality and availability of decent LED sets has been really poor this year. I have had a hard time finding rectified LED strings and descent LED rope light. Almost all of the LED rope light that is available in the stores uses one LED every two inches. I like the ropes that use one LED to every inch. Okay I did find one LED lightset that was unique as a stand alone product, shooting star icicle lights. These have a FWB and capacitors to keep the lights working, no flicker at all.

I've never bought lights from him before and I have to say that I've been totally underwhelmed with his customer service and his lack of veracity. My own order went fairly smoothly. It shipped in plenty of time, and was missing all my blue lights, but he quickly corrected the problem. Contacting him was a bit of a struggle but not nearly as bad as some have had.But frankly after seeing the epic thread on PC, I would have great trouble doing business with him again. Not replying to countless phone calls, emails, etc is nothing short of terrible customer service, and unless we see some sort of major explanation, I can't see how he is going to recover from this. PaulXmas
I like LEDs"Power saving"I can use more lights on just one circuit and my power bill is smaller!
JediKnight2
Personally...and this is primarily because I have a smaller display..the electric bill/usage isn't a deterrent for me....like I said..they just look so different it bugs me for some reason. basis21b
I have blue lights as part of my display. I like the fact that the blue LEDs are not overwhelmed by the other colors and won't fade to the point of being unusable after two seasons.Oh and the fact that I don't have to upgrade my electrical service is nice too! jim6918
Well, I am on record here saying that "I Hate LED'S" and there is another thing that I noticed this year phasing in C9 Retros, and thats the "directionality" of LED's. Even with the crystal prism effect of the plastic bulb, the C9's only look best when you are looking at them straight on so you have to take more care hanging them. I have noticed this also with the smaller LED's. At least with incandescents, you get the effect of color even with the bulb at some angle other than straight on.I have to say that I so like the look of the C9's that I plan on converting all of the house, door and window trim to C9's next year. rmturner54
I might as well get in on some of this action too.GO LED's !!!!!!........ditto on all the reasons to use them. I got tired of troubleshooting the mini's every year.......what a pain. I am 100% LED's, have been for years. This is my second year with LOR, 1st year using music. Absolutely no problems at all. No dimming or fading problems at all. I use LED'S from both Paul and Travis. Both of them have great service.Richard
Steve Constantino
I like LED's for many different reasons. But do I use them in my display, NO. They cost just way to much. I can't justify spending that type of money. Even with the power savings. I would not save enough money on power over the six weeks that the display runs to off set the cost of the leds. When the cost comes down to 2 or 3 dollars I would buy all LED's.Steve
Guest Don Gillespie
Leds or no Leds that is the question 594 led lights draw 0.09 amps leaves lots of room for a lot of lights 52799 to be exact for one chanel I don't know about you but that could turn into a real neat show. the cost is not that bad eyes are always open when I am out with my wife she is looking at gifts for the grand children and I am always looking for lights. Brad
I like some of them. For me, and it just might be my eyesight, I have a hard time focusing on some of the colors. Blue for instance always look like a photo out of focus, the white ones are very sharp and clear.
Ed Slonka Jr
Have done business with Travis the last 2 years with no problem but I understand he suffered from H1N1 for some time during peak light selling season. All my LED's from him are real nice in color and intensity.
