LOR start-up

Well, another year, another problem. I am running two controllers with the S2 program and decided to add a third 8 channel unit this year. All three rotarys are properly set to 01,02 and 03. However, when I tried to enable the show last night, it immediately disabled itself over and over again. Does anyone have an answer for this gremlin?:?

Hello Frank, how are things in Ohio? I have family throughout the state--mainly near Columbus. Thanks for the quick reply; I'll work on your suggestion when I return home this PM. Many thanks.:)

Hello again Frank, well I don't know if this will help clarify things, but here's what I found tonight. Using the Hardware Utility--it found only two of the three controllers. I also verified that all three were on and the rotary switches were set to 01,02,and 03. Another friend said something about the current version of SW--any idea what that's about? Anyhow--the program worked fine last year on just the two controllers.:(

Ralph,

Is the board that is not showing up your newest? There have been several people reporting that new board with the rotary switches not showing up. One solution to this is to spin the dials a couple of times thru all positions and then reset to the desired address.

As a note the switches are only read on power up. Also since the unit has the switches, there should not be a jumper on the 18 pin header.

Thanks for the help Chuck. May I ask a couple more questions? I can't seem to get an answer from tech support so I'll try another avenue. If I download the Basic+ version, will I also have to upgrade to 2.6? Or does the first step take care of both? Also, regarding the positioning of the Cat-5 pins in the LOR controller boxes. I have three controllers; the first is a 16 Ch. and the rotary is set at 01; box two is an 8 ch. and that dial is at 02; finally, the third is also an 8 ch. and that dial is at 03. This seems logical enough to me, but does the positioning of the Cat-5 pin matter at all? The reason I ask is last night I was able to get my lights to turn on, but only the first and third controllers. So--obviously I am wondering why the first and second boxes didn't play?

Ralph,

What version of the software and license level do you currently have? Basic + is a license level. Meaning, that your license code and activation will unlock the features that you have pruchased. There is no additional download that needs to happen unless you are a person that likes to stay current and/or having problems with bugs that are noted as repaired in the current release.

Not quite sure what you are asking about the Cat5 so I am going to answer how I think you are wanting to ask. First if you are using only Cat5 cable to connect the controllers, it does not matter which connector you plug into on the board. As a standard in my mind I use the left cat5 connector as in and the right as out. Simply because if I need to troubleshoot, this is consistant for me to know what I have disconnected. Second, It does not matter in what order the controllers address wise are on the line. You can have them 3-2-1, 1-2-3, 1-3-2 anyway you get the idea.

Did you take and spin the dials on the board that is not talking? Another way to check to see if the controller is communicationg at all, since you get the solid LED with the cables connected and using the hardware utility. Set the MAX units all the way to the upper limit of 240. Then scan the network. Does is show 3 controllers? If so what is the address of the 3rd unit? Can you select that controller and control lights with the hardware utility? When you do the above and it works, the it is the dials. OH, remember after you change any switch settings, you have to cycle power to get the board to read the switch positions again.
