Reducing Sequences

With the free sequences a lot of them are for more than 16 channels. Some of us Newbies, me included not sure about how this was going to work, only started with 16 channels, but see now the need to expand next year. Is there a easy way to reduce the number of channels down to 16?

You should not need to reduce the amount of channels. They will be ignored by the First controller. When you add your next controller and set it up as the second controller. That controller will then play the sequences that are sent to it.

Hope that is right as I am just getting started myself.

Yes JL, you are essentially correct. It really doesn't matter how many "extra" channels you have in a given sequence. If the sequence is made for 144 channels and you're only using 16, the extra channels aren't going to do anything except make the file bigger and take a little longer to load. (A good argument for not deleting them would be so that they're still there for possible use in case you decide to expand how many controllers you have next year.) All that matters for now is that you get the channels you're using from the borrowed sequence properly assigned to your own controllers.

For example, if your controller is set to unit ID #1 (which makes sense if it is your first controller) make sure that the borrowed sequence doesn't have any other channels in it (other than the the ones you're using) also set for controller number 1. Use the channel property grid in the sequence editor and/or the LOR Verifier to make sure there are no conflicts and you're good to go.

Getting a sequence with lots of channels is like going to the Chinese Buffett. So much to choose from and you just put what you want on your plate.
