Guest guest
I have a unit that was working properly until tonight. It seems channel 11 is in shimmer when it should be off. I can turn it on and it stays on, it will twinkle, but when the off command is sent, it goes to shimmer.Any ideas? I hope I don't have to send it back.I tried cycling power but to no avail. It was bought during the save 10 sale. I'll try leaving it off overnight tonight to see if it is a heat problem. Attached files
Guest guest
I would guess that its one of three things.1. There's not enough load on that channel. Are you using LED's?2. The TRIAC is bad. Does it get hotter or colder than another with exactly the same load?3. The opto isolator is bad.The last two would require the board to be replaced. I only had a single C9 on it and it will have 600 mini's outside. But no, the shimmering stopped with a 100 mini load and it ran steady at about 3/4 brightness. I can tell it gets brighter on 100% intensity but will not go to zero. With the single C9, it goes back to the shimmering state. Yes, something has gone wrong with this channel. Thank you for your input.

Using :- power off, disconnect all network leads, set ID to 00, power on for 10-15secs, power off, reset ID to original, connect up again and test. Just my two pennuth!Martin
Guest guest
It does sound like a bad triac or opto. It will have to be sent back for repair. Contact info@lightorama.com
Guest guest
WOW you guys actually test them before you put up your display? Guess I will have to do that when I build mine. As Dan well knows I decided to test mine the day I first used them.
Guest guest
Are the Opto's in sockets on these? I haven't got my kit yet but maybe having those opto chips in sockets would facilitate repair.

Guest guest
Dan, it appears this issue is resolved. I looked at the board with my spotlight and it looked there might be some kind of (dustlike)??? something between the triac leads. I took it out to the compressor and blew it out. It now works fine.I would edit the title to say resolved, but it appears one can't do that.
