HELP - Easy Light Linker signal drops off 5 feet away

HELP! My show worked for one day then stopped. I discovered the problem is that my easy light linkers are not comminicating. If i put the linkers RIGHT NEXT TO EACHOTHER, they work. But If i move one just 5 feet away from the other, the signal fades (LED 2 on the reciever goes off) I have tried chaning the channels on both of the transiever units but to no avail.

Please help. I am desperate for answers.

Hi Kevin,

I've used the ELL for two years now and here are my settings using the Hardware Utility:

Freguency is ch16

Speed: 57600

Power Level 0dBm 1mW

I am using them with about 150 feet between the two units and I have the about 8' off the ground.

If you hit the "Get Current Configuration", you should get a status of the ELL

Mine says: mfr=Light-O-Rama, Inc. dev=RF-V4 sn8affdfd6 ver=2.8 spd=57,600

chn=16 os=-1 pwr=odBm (1mW) crc=3535 cmd=0 mxc=0 xe=0rpo=0

rfs=0 rso=0

Hope this helps

Tom

THat is what all of my settings are

Like I said, It worked for a few days, then randomly when I came home today, the two ELLs stopped communicating.

I have tried chaning the frequencies.

The range used to be great! now it sucks, what happened?

I'm at a lost. Sorry I can't help. You might want to check to see if the antenna is tight. Another thing, has it rained lately? Make sure they are not wet or water has gotten into them somehow.

Two more notes: I tried two different coputers AND I have the USB adapter with the voltage booster.

Im still beating myself up about the fact that they were working fine before. I dont know what changed.

LED 2 is flashing rapidly but dimly when in the hardware utility and it is STEADY ON when the show is running
LED 3 is off

RECEIVER:

LED 1 is flashing about onnce per second
LED 2 is off unless i move the transmitter unit right next to the receiver
LED 3 is off

Have you tried switching your Cat5 cable to see if you have a bad cable maybe from the second ELL to the controller.

Also on your hardware utility is your Ell flashing at the bottom of it if it is, this to me shows it sees the first Ell then maybe a bad cable to second one

I tried a new Cat5 cable on both, no luck. And yes, the hardware utility sees the ELL but when i do the search it says "Found 0 Units"

I dont think it would be the cable since the ELLs work when they are right next to each other, they just dont work when they are further than 10 feet apart.

I just emailed support. Unfortunately I dont have a cable long enough to use in place of the ELL so no lights until LOR gets back to me... Sad.:( Hopefully someone is checking the email before monday... sigh

Hmm... I have a sneaking suspicion that the ELL is not getting enougb power. SUPPOSE for a second that my USB adapter failed somehow would this cause the hardware utility to STILL recognize the ELL yet underpower it.

In other words, could the ELL not be receiving enough power but still be seen by the hardware utility?

Just theorizing.

Many have posted over time to keep the cat 5 cable as short as possible between the ELL and the device it is connected to.

What occurs if you put a controller between the USB485B and the ELL?

Sounds like your config is computer-------USB485B----- ELL

then ELL-----controller(s).

Another thought since you said it did work. What if a neighbor got a new cordless phone? Or some other device in the frequency range as the ELL?

Chuck
