johnsonfool
Can I back down the maximum output of a board? Meaning can I set the whole board to cut back to only 95% output? How is this done and what happens to items on that board like a strobe that can't be dimmed? I have 17 boards in my display can I modify in the hardware utility one time that will handle all 17 boards?
George Simmons
Changing the maximum intensity is doable through the hardware utility. I'm not certain without looking but I think you have to do each controller individually. Incandescents and most LED's will be unaffected. Any motors or transformers will very likely be harmed. 95% intensity isn't really much of a decrease in power (I'm not sure what you're wanting to accomplish) so maybe LED strobes wouldn't be affected. The xenon models might feel differently.I expect you'll get some expert answers pretty quickly, especially if I've led you astray.
johnsonfool
I just threw out that 95% number. I was actually thinking of dropping some of my boards lower just to decrease the total power consumption. After turning the lights on tonight I feel like I would be okay backing some down and wanted to try it and see if a huge difference could be noticed. George Simmons
If you look back a week or so, Jeff Millard made some measurements comparing intensity vs. power consumption. You'll probably be surprised (I sure was) at how much you have to reduce intensity before you achieve any meaningful power savings. Of course, if you're wanting to do it for effect, that's a different matter, but don't expect to save very many pennies.
