First year and electical going in tomorrow

This will be my first year using LOR. Until this morning I was only planning on using the one LOR1602W unit I purchased a few months ago. Well..... I purchased four more this morning.

Tomorrow morning the electrician is showing up to do some work, and I was hoping to get some feedback on this. If you have any suggestions, or see something wrong with this, please let me know. Thanks in advance

I am figuring on the following:

- each LOR1602W unit requires two 20 Amp breakers

- I will need (10) 20 amp breakers

- these breakers should feed (10) GFCI outlets

Hi Rick,

Electrical needs are going to vary by person. For example, I had 5, 16 channel controllers last year. (What you are going to have this year.) However, I never went over 10amps per SIDE of the controller ... which means I never went over 20amps per controller. Thus, I only needed 5 circuits for my display.

Now, if you are going to use a lot of C7/C9 bulbs, then your amp rating is going to be higher. Remember, 29 strands of 100 count mini lights (at .34 amps per strand) means you can have 2900 lights per side of the controller. (9.86amps) That's 5800 per controller and 29000 while only using 5 circuits. Of course, if you add C7/C9 your capacity will be reduced. However, if you use energy saving bulbs, then you can use more.

Rick,

I have the same thing. 5 controllers and I'm planning the same thing. 10ea 20 amp breakers (2 for each controller). I would stick with your plan. I plan to use a bunch of rope lights which is another good reason to stick with 2ea 20 amp breakers per controller. What if you plan to use flood lights and such? If you keep in mind the 80% factor for electrical usage, I think staying with you idea will be most useful. Always plan big so at least, you will be prepared for a bigger show.

Rope lights, C7/C9 lights, flood lights. They all add up quick in amps.

Just my thoughts,

Tom

Looks like the majority of what I will be using will be LED's in the C6 and Mini size. I do have some other mini's that I will be using for mini-trees, and some icicles.

Hmmm... then there are around ten inflatables that I am somehow going to need to wire the bulbs into the controllers. This way I can control the lights.

Electricians left around 4:00 on Monday and said they would be beck the next day. I told them I was going to be away for a few days and they said I didnt have to be there.

Well, come back from Daytona on Thursday and still not completed. This morning I call and find out some outlets and covers are on back order.

One problem I ran into is the Electrician said I need to look at increasing the power from the Electric Compan :-(

Four new controllers arrived today. Still waiting on three cases of lights from Reinder and a Ramsey FM25B. This is my Christmas :-)

This is what I was left with. Electrician had to order some parts and should be able to complete the job on Tuesday.

Now I am trying to figure out how to mount the controllers.

- mount directly to house

- mount to board and mount that to house.

- purchase a temp plastic type shed and mount that to house

I think the best would be to have a small shed (almost like a phone booth) to store everything in. Then I can just run the power in the back of the shed and out the bottom to the displays.
