navykidd02
Someone tripped over the Cat5 cable that was connected to my controller. NOW it does not work. I tried a new cable that I know is good. BUUUT When I hook a RJ11(phone cable) It works fine and I have to use is as the first one then all the others will work fine with the CAT5 jumpers. HELP I wanna use CAT5. How do I replace the connector on the board.
Guest wbottomley
If the phone cable works.... then change the cat 5 connector when the season is over.
navykidd02
Will it slow my sequences down. I know the CAT5e is able to handle more info. I just want to make sure it is able to handle the comms.
Max-Paul
Just because you have cat5 cable connected to the controller. It does not mean you are getting 100Mbps through the cable. Repeat after me, this is not ethernet communication. Now once you got that down pat. realize that cat5 cable is very easy for non-techical people to get their hands on. So, LOR decided to use this cable. But actually, this is RS-485 serial comm. I am sure you have heard this "RS-485" before. I cant say for certanity, but serial runs much slower and I think that LOR might be running as slow as 9600 baud or maybe up around 115K baud. So, relax and dont worry about the speed. Your phone line will work just fine to get you through the season. Might want to strain relief you cat5 cable next year so that you do not have any more damage to the connectors. chartrand
If you know how to solder, the after the season you may be able to order from LOR a new connector and remove the damage one and replace with new one. Before doing this, I would quickly check the existing solder point and maybe just one of them is cracked which can be easily fixed. If your not a person who can solder, maybe there is someone here who can for you, or maybe you can ship it to LOR and have them repair it for you? Personally I would just use the phone cable for that box and save a few $$.-Pat
cmoore60
How would we know if any of us are near him? He does not have his location in his profile. This is a case where someone near you could possibly lend a hand.Chuck
