Erik
I have 10 controllers I originally rain the Cat5 cable in a Daisy chain 1-10 but was not able to find any controller in the Hardware utility, after doing some troubleshooting determined if I unplugged the connection between 5 and 6 I could talk to the first 5. I then ran a separate Cat5 to number 10 figured I would split it in half, however I was not able to talk to 6-10 unless I unplug the connection between 8 and 9. So right know I am able to talk to 7 of the controllers 1-5 and 9-10.I'm hoping somewhere here has a suggestion on what would cause this problem, and how to fix it.Also to clarify I can talk to all of the controllers individually
Denis Chaput
If you can communicate to 1 through 5 try adding one controller at a time and see if this worksPS you may have a bad cable?
JBullard
I would also suspect a bad cable in the chain.
Max-Paul
Yes, I agree, maybe a couple bad cables. But I did not see what make the controllers are and I wonder if it is possible. That one to two controllers some how got reprogrammed with a different ID. I see that you were able to talk to each of the 10 controllers 1 at a time. So, is it safe to say that you confirmed that all 10 controllers had a different ID than any of the other controllers?
chartrand
Yep, test test test until you find either bad cable or uncover an issues with a port on one of your controllers.-Pat
Alan C
If one of the cables has a short across the pair used for the RS485 comms, then when connected it will prevent all of the controllers from working. I cannot remember off hand which pins it is on the RJ45 connector, it is either pins 4&5 or pins 3&6. The easiest option would be to begin with only controllers 1 - 5 connected (which you said worked), then add the cable to controller 6 and try again, then add controller 6 without its outgoing cable. You will eventually find the cable(s) that are causing you the problem.Regards,Alan.
Erik
Thank you all for your suggestions, I had some help wiring the Cat 5 and as it turns out were weren't on the same page so a couple of the cables were not using the same pair. Everything is working ok now.
