I can't download my program into the LOR16 !

Newbie here...I went to 32 channels of LOR this year, and made a 32 program animation. Now, when I try to download the sequence from my PC to the controller, I get an error that my program is too big ! I thought by daisy-chaining the controllers through the ethernet cable, that would take a larger program. I cannot seem to find an answer in any of the forums (probably because it is so simple I cannot grasp it). I have followed all the instructions on the LOR support site, and it still won't load. I have solid lights, the refresh finds both controllers, they are named 01 and 02, so I am out of ideas. Anyone had this happen ? Please let me in on the secret, or my grandkids are going to be very disappointed that Grandpa can't show them the pretty lights.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Marty,

What type of controller do you have? If it's CTB16PC, then you can not load a stand-alone sequence to the controller. Only the Showtime/CTB16D controllers can run a stand-alone.

If you have the correct controller .. from the manual:

A stand alone animation sequence (sequence with no accompanying audio) can be downloaded into the flash memory of the lighting controller’s microprocessor. This sequence can contain approximately 5,000 commands. These commands can also be for controllers other than this controller, so this controller can direct a network of controllers.

I don't recall the approximate size 5000 commands works out to.

Also, adding more controllers does not increase the 5000 command limit. You are downloading the sequence into 1 controller, which then directs the other controllers.

Thanks, Don, but how do people get shows of 20 minutes into their controllers ? My show has 32 channels, and is only 5 minutes long, no audio, just changing of the lights.
Thanks again

Many use the 1602 with MP3 director, or most run their show from their computers.

A 1602 can hold approx 5000 commands in it's onboard memory for stand-alone mode. A five minute animation for 32 channels would probably well exceed that.

I use a 1602 in stand-alone mode at Halloween running an animation and 32 channels, the most I have ever gotten was just a couple of minutes.

I'm thinking from memory the max is around 50,000 bytes. Don't have one hooked up at the moment.

When you click "Download" from the hardware utility it should tell you the Max storage in bytes you have available. Fades in a sequence take up the most storage.

Marty,

As mentioned, fades tend to use the most 'events' in a sequence.

You could shorten your overall sequence, and consider the use of loops. This would let you repeat a section without having to re-program it in the sequence.

Thank you everyone for the great input. I really appreciate it. Maybe someday I will have music with my show, but it is just beyond me time-wise right now.
Thanks again

I routinely use my mini director without sound. The mini director, mp3 director, and pc based shows can all accept animation sequences just fine, and you can leave the audio outputs completely alone with no issues.

OK, I bought the show mini director, put my show on it. Documentation is very vauge, I cannot figure out how to get my show from the SD card to the LOR controller. My show director will not power up with the ethernet cable. What am I doing wrong ? Please help, I am now in a time crunch.
Thanks in advance

Starting on page 20 of the manual, it walks you through step by step on how to put your sequences on the SD card.

As for powering the unit, make sure your controller is powered on; then connect a cable (less than 50') from the controller to the mini-director. If it doesn't power up, you may need to email support (or wait for others here to chime in.)

I use an external power supply with my mini-director, have it on a timer, since it doesn't have a built-in clock.

When the mini-director powers on, then all the controllers become active running the show lights.

With the mini director cabled directly to one of the controllers, with the controller powered on, the mini director is not powering up?

Take a look at page 6 (11) of this document.

Unplug the mini director, and check that this jumper is installed. While it is supposed to ship with this jumper installed, it is possible that it was not installed.
