LENNY RUEL
I have a question. I'm lucky enough to get my cat5 cable free as my wife works for a communications firm. Yesterday I had her get me a 150' cable with ends. She brought it home and said "by the way that is cat6, we are going to that instead of 5. the guys in tech said it should work as the main difference is its got faster capacity".Will it work? Want to make sure instead of assuming and then going in two weeks to hook everything up and find out otherwise. Thanks in advance.Lenny
Dennis Cherry
YES, Cat 5 is slower speed than Cat 6, so both will work for our application.
-klb-
It should be just fine. Some cat5 ends won't install well on cat6, and it is a bit more difficult to work with when installing your own ends, but generally it should have no issues. cenote
Being that you are a little new, I feel you need to send me a few thousand feet of wire, and I will be sure to fully test to see if there is a difference between 5 and 6. Would not want you to have any problems this year. :D:DNo fear, no dfference between 5 and 6 for LOR communications. Actually, telephone wire works too, case you are wondering.edit for typo
