anthonyrusso3
I'm running Windows vista and for some reason when my computer reboots the communication port changes. I have to go into the hardware utility and reset it. It doesn't happen all the time just sometimes. Has anyone have any ideas on a solution to this problem? SDembski
Check the drivers for your USB adapter because there might be an option to force it to always use the same comm port. I know my Keyspan usb to serial adapter has that feature and I would think that the softare supplied with other usb adapters would have a similar feature. anthonyrusso3
NO Still no luck there seems to be no way of forcing it to stay on a com port seems to fluctuate from com 6 and com
rwertz
Here are my (brief) notes on changing the COM port number for the USB485 Adapter in XP (see attachment). I think Vista was very similar: Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager Ports (COM & LPT) / USB Serial Port (COM__) Right Click / Properties / Port Settings / Advanced Set COM Port Number: COM__ Press OKAlso, it might be caused by connecting the USB adapter through a hub or plugging it in to different USB ports on the computer. anthonyrusso3
Going to test out using different usb ports on the computer to see if this might work. Everything in the device manager is fine no way to force it to always recognize that port the same way..... Thank you.
