Nixay
Hi,So I'm working on a countdown timer for my display to show when the next program is starting. I'm using a DIO32 and two DIO16IOD connection boards to control the digits. One of my digits only had 3 segments working and I noticed the green LED for that digit wasn't on. After checking everywhere for a short or broken connection I finally looked at the connection board and found the socket where the ribbon cable connects wasn't completely soldered.I understand this is likely an isolated incident, as everything else I've purchased from LOR is top notch. I'm guessing the simplicity of this board will mean I can just solder this up myself without any hassle (I'm in Australia so not interested in lengthy delays returning and receiving a replacement) but thought I should mention it here in case anyone else has found the same thing.Thanks!Nixay. Ponddude
Thats really interesting to me because usually mass production boards like this LOR's are soldered via a solder belt. This allows you to put all the components on the board and the board then floats through a "river" of solder. However, I just ordered the connection board and didn't realize that these add on boards for the DIO are special order. That leads me to believe that someone may actually be soldering these. Probably an oversight on LOR, but something I will be sure to check out when I get my connection board.
-klb-
I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to solder that up yourself.
Nixay
Yeah, I just soldered it myself and all channels are working now. Although the little green LED still isn't working - just noticed it's been installed backwards
LightORamaDan
Hi,That is my fault. I set the testing procedures for DIO32 and all the daughter cards but I never added a section for DIO32 connection card. I remember thinking about it and what the best way to test it would be but I never finished the document so it did not get tested. All of the other types of DIO32 cards do go through testing but none of the connector cards did. Will not happen again. As far as why it looks like that- The DIO32 mother card is produced in a fabrication house. The daughter cards are currently only special order and we have people here at LOR solder them together as ordered. We were not sure if the DIO32 would be much of a seller so we did not order large quantities produced. Next year everything will outsourced. We will send a replacement. Ponddude
Dan, just a suggestion here, take it as you will...If the daughter cards aren't a huge seller and they are soldered in house, how about making them a DIY product and just send us the parts. I personally would not have a problem soldering mine up. Plus, they would ship quicker and I think the people purchasing the DIO card are fairly used to soldering and making their own components.Again, just a suggestion for the future. It isn't a big deal now as I've completed the soldering myself and all is well, except the LED which was installed backwards - it's soldered pretty close to the board so I don't think I'll be able to fix that without doing some damage. Will send you an email though.Nixay.
