Are you familiar with a free program, called "Audacity?" You can use it to record anything you want onto your computer, mix it with music if you want, and then insert it like any other audio file into your show.

With Audacity you can record one track at a time if you wish. I have done several with mine and works great. Now I have used a little mixer with it to tweak the audio, but it can be done with just a mic and your computer if you wish.

If you are going to go to the effort of doing this (and it's not THAT hard to do but you'll likely have a learning curve), I'd like to suggest you not just plug a $10 microphone in to your computer. Why not get good sound quality?

So what I'm proposing is that you also consider getting a good microphone and that will likely require a mixer. A reasonable mixer is less than $100 and I use one in my sound setup anyway.

For a microphone there is a huge range of choices and prices. For about a $100 you can get a Shure SM57 dynamic microphone that has been an industry standard forever.

Or - for $100 you can rent a recording studio for an hour. Really. Then take the sound home and edit it with Audacity.

---------

And if this is way beyond budget, here is a simple suggestion to help your recording quality. Do your voice recording in a good environment with no ambient sounds, echo, etc. The best room in your house to do this? Record while standing inside your clothes closet!

Might I also suggest using The Demented Elf for voiceover work. His 50 buck package is worth at least twice that. Many of us use him. I also have several voiceovers with me and my family.

If your really wanting to do this, and end up getting a mic and mixer, you might want to check out to see if there is a Guitar Center close to you. You can get a little 2 channel Behringer mixer for under $50.00. (http://www.guitarcenter.com/Behringer-Eurorack-UB802-Mixer-102331477-i1153481.gc This is what I have. But here is a real cheap one; http://www.guitarcenter.com/Gem-Sound-GEM-SOUND-MC-55-5-CH-COMPACT-STEREO-MIXER-882491-i1465382.gc ) Also, they have TONS of mics that will work fine well under $100.00. I used a mic made by Marshal...maybe....MTX??? Something like that. Got it on a grand opening for a whopping $49.00. 2 mics in one case. (http://www.guitarcenter.com/MXL-MXL-990-993-Studio-Package-770696-i1126983.gc) They have several different types and even this 990 in a usb model. They also have a Behringer listed for $26.xx as well. Just depends on what you want.

The other gentleman is right....that Shure is the industry standard. But these mics do great. I am a band director (middle school) and these mics get plenty of abuse with our Jazz Band ;-)

Good Luck....
