Second new LOR going out

So I purchased 4 controllers. 1 of the 4 had one channel stuck. So they replaced the unit and I got the replacement today. Now I'm out there programming my song and one of the other controllers is acting weird.

I'm currently using only 8 of the channels with 5 strings of 100 LEDs and 3 rope lights. This box worked perfectly all last night and most of this afternoon (while programing). I went to dinner and came back out and all 8 channels were stuck on. So I shut off the box and restarted the computer. I turned the box back on and the red light didn't come on right away. When it did, the 8 channels flickered. They continued to flicker (in unison) at a random rate, even though the computer was still not on. I started the computer, opened the LOR control panel, refreshed. All looked ok. The channels seem to work in controlling the show, but they continue to flicker throughout.

So I came in and read here about turning it off, setting it to zero, turning it on for a few, turning it off, resetting the channel. Didn't work. So I disconnected it and switched it with another box. That box works fine in its place. But the one on the fritz is still flickering in a different location.

HELP! I'm a week away from Halloween and I need this!

Are these units always this weird?

No these unit are not usually so wierd.

You have done a reset on the controller. What happens if this is the only controller connected to the computer? Still have the same problems?

Have you tried swapping cables around. This does sound like a communications problem. Do you use any compact floresent lights in your home. They may be effecting the communications. If that is the case then if you do not already have it you may need a USB cable between the computer and the adapter that has the ferrite beads (filters) to suppress the noise that is induced.

I have not tried any of those things...I'll try tomorrow. I do have compact florescents. I've not heard of the type of USB cable you're talking about...is it widely available? My concern is that the lights still flickered with the computer off. It was fine during the day, then not at night, which could be the florescents. But if that were the case, wouldn't all 4 units be affected?

Try resetting all the controllers on the network. Sometimes a controller needing a reset will affect other controllers while appearing to work fine itself.

Been there Done that.

Ok this is how i fixed my flickering, i replaced the box with a new one and it still acted strange so the only thing that was the same was my power source. so i run power from a different outlet and wella the problem was fixed. it seems the 12 year old GFI outlet was sending out some weird signals. i will replace it tomarro with a new one.

IT WAS THE SOURCE OF MY POWER FOR THE CONTROLLERS, Very hard to figure that out.

Ummm, has everyone forgotten about the bad LED's from last year? Caused the same problem as seen here. Moving power to a separate outlet will help keep the spurious noise out of the rest of the circuitry, but isn't a complete solution.

My question is.... where'd you get these LED's?

Just for fun, try dimming one of your strings to 40% and leave it there, leaving all other strings off. See what happens. If you have flickering fireworks, it's your LED's.
