DIO32 Voltage regulator getting very hot

Not sure if this is the normal course of events but the VR on my DIO board is VERY hot. The heatsink and VR are much hotter then I would expect. Is that to be expected or could there be something wrong? I am running off of 120volts. All the jumpers are in the right place and the neutral and hot wires are installed correctly.

I was running servos...sorry should have said that.

The servos need their own power supplies, which I am using, which is even more interesting to me.

Just for isolation purposes, have you tried just the card for a while, without the servos and their power supply?

Also, if there is a SC-485, Easy Linker, or iDMX on the LOR buss with it, the 10V regulator may be supplying power over the LOR bus for those devices.

But it may just be that there is a lot more logic on this card, and as a result it can be expected to run the regulator harder than one of the AC controllers.

Ponddude,

can you discribe what you are calling very hot? How long can you touch it before you have to release the heat sink?
I agree, remove all other stuff other than the comm cable. Does it still get very hot? If not, put one device on at a time and check the heat sink. Any difference between devices.

Did a little more testing tonight.

With absolutely nothing plugged into it; no servo power, no inputs or outputs, just the line voltage, the regulator gets hot in about 5 minutes. I can't keep my finger there for longer 3 or 4 seconds. The more I look into the heatsink the more substational it really appears to be. I think this could just be how the board functions, however I would just like to get a yay or nay from LOR.

Something is wrong. With nothing attached to the card, the heatsink should not even be warm to the touch. Somthing on the card is drawing lots of current. We will send you a replacement and a return shipping label so we can see what the issue is.

Send you shipping information to: Support@lightorama.com
