I have not heard any stories of people successfully using stand by. Maybe if you scheduled the system to turn on and off in the BIOS and set up everything to log in and start up on its own. But you are likely going to be on your own getting it to work, as most of us turn off all the power saving features. There are some threads on similar topics, with links on how to configure auto login etc, so that LOR can load after login automatically.

I've never quite understood what the various issues are with this. I don't have any.

My computer dedicated to running shows is on 24 hours a day. It performs other tasks, but during the night and early morning, it is usually in standby. It's been working well like that for the last 3 years, so I'm seeing it is possible, but KLB makes a good point. I've heard others to have problems.

I recall that when I first set it up long ago, I had touble with the network card not coming back on line after a standby state, but an update to the driver fixed that.

I guess there are a lot of variables that can cause it not to work, so maybe you should just experiment and see if it works. To some people it might not be worth the effort. How much energy are you really going to save? If you get ripped off like we do in California for power, then maybe worth it. For what it's worth, when my LOR computer is running, it consumes 260 watts, but in standby, it is around 45 watts.

Note, just in case you are wondering... "Hibernate" and "Standby" are 2 different things. People sometimes confuse them to be the same thing. I don't think hybernate mode would ever work well.
