About to take the plunge

Been lurking on this site for over a year - I have quite a display I have se up over the years using just LED lights and a Mr Christmas Box

This year I plan on purchasing the LOR System so I of course have some questions.

Here is my plan and then i will list some questions...

I currently plan on purchasing the 32 channel start up package. I have a mega tree setup already (used it with my Mr Christmas Box last year) I figured if I hooked up the mega tree to the LOR I would have to dedicate at least 16 channels to it. Would I be correct in that? I really dont know how many lights I am going to have on it yet. For now I plan on having Green strands, Red strands and Colored. So I even thought of just having 3 channels on the mega tree (1 for each color) so i can dedicate more to the house (plan on also doing the 3 color schemes for the house also)

Since I am just starting what are the absolute "Have to Buy" items?

I figured if I bought the LOR 32 channel setup I would also upgrade to the standard version of the software...good idea?

Also I would need a radio FM transmitter. Any specific style or model recommended?

Do any of you recommend the HolidaySoft for a virtual view of my setup on the computer?

Thats all for now but I am sure I will have more questions int he future.

Welcome to a fellow lurker :P

To save on channels when I first purchased my system, I used 10 channels on my mega tree: 2 channels solid color, 8 channels another color. I wanted to be able to have my tree spin, etc. I also made 10' arches with 5 channels (3 programmed together.)

Many people spend lots of money on their display so their suggestions will probably not be the same as mine. I do NOT use HolidaySoft, as I've found the LOR visualizer fine for my needs. (I now have 112 channels.)

Also, I just use the "whole house transmitter" sold in the LOR store. I also have outside speakers. I live in the south and on warm nights, kids on bikes, parents pushing strollers, etc. would come sit in front of my house for hours.

Of course, if I had lots of money to dedicate to my hobby, I would probably upgrade. When I started this hobby, I purchased the unit with the Mp3 player. I LOVE it. I personally like not having a computer tied up during the show.

Again, Welcome!

Thanks for the tip. That seems like a good plan (with the mega tree) unfortunately I dont have the software yet so i am sure I am going to have to learn it quick (I did play around with the demo version) I thought I would pretty much use already made shows for this coming season and then concentrate on making my own int he future with possibly even upgrading to more channels. How many do you have now?

I planned on using my laptop to run the show so i wouldnt tie up a computer but I never heard of the MP3 set up ... what is that?

Check out the showtime controller with Mp3 player. It costs more money, but I love it! There is an upgrade available in the showtime product section of the online store.

I now have 112 channels. There are many people who have made their sequences available for download. Many of these are easy to tweak for your own set-up. Have you looked at lorsequences.com? This is a great place to start.

Keep using the Demo software until you get your licensed software. It is pretty much the same you just cannot control lights and use some wizards.

The MP3 controller just eliminates the PC but if you don't mind using your PC then you just have to decide how you will get the sound to viewers.

By Radio or by speakers or both.

Good luck.
