Smartsound Install Issue.

I ordered my first LOR board (in kit) in the May sale and decided this week to install the full software version that I downloaded. It installed correctly but when I start any modules (show editor, sequence editor, etc), I see that Smartsound try to install itself.

Smartsound is an add-on that I bought to work with Pinnacle Studio video editing product and it enable the creation of soundtrack of any length. It seem to think that LOR is video editing software.

I did not try to supply the disk to the system to try to install smartsound with LOR. Has anybody tried this? I did a search and could not find anything.

After I cancel 6 times, the software seem to works normally.

Here are some screen capture I did of the different screens:

First screen is warning that smartsound is being installed.

I do not think that this is a LOR installation issue. LOR is properly installed and will run. However this Smartsound application does appear to have a problem.

I believe that I heard this once before and I do know that happened. I will talk with the programmer tomorrow that worked on this and see if he recalls what was necessary to fix it.

However LOR is properly installed, running and can be used.

Thank you Dan. Looking forward to what you can find. I was able to run a sequence I downloaded previously.

I have not yet done any test to uninstall Smartsound or anything.

I found the emails from the last time. The last time it was QuicktracksPlugin but my guess is that is is the same problem.

Here is the Link to the Smartsounds FAQ that covers this: http://www.smartsound.com/support/answers/link.php?id=309

Here is a cut/paste of a topic that should explain.

SmartSound Support > Quicktracks for Pinnacle Studio > Every time I launch a program, I get a message about QuicktracksPlugin.msi

Every time I launch a program, I get a message about QuicktracksPlugin.msi
By SmartSound

This indicates that the Quicktracks plug-in was not completely installed and that Windows Installer believes there is still work it needs to complete. The message that pops-up when you run other programs is there as a reminder that the installation process is not complete.

For whatever reason this problem exists, the solution is the same. Download and install the Quicktracks updater. Once this file is on your computer, run the installer. It will complete the installation and fix the problem. You should no longer receive the message about the QuicktracksPlugin.msi.

That's one of the big reason I felt confident to buy a LOR kit and probably more in the coming years. I have been on Planet Chrimas since Dec and I have seen the incredible support provided by Dan and his team.

Seems strange but I too had the same problems as Yves described. My LOR software had been running just fine until yesterday when I started the sequence editor, much to my horror the same messages came up and would not let me work on LOR until I worked feverishly to "kill" this problem. My solution was to just eliminate the program smartsound using the add/remove program feature in the control folder. Since then I've read this and reloaded the program using the updater supplied by Dan and all seems happy again. Thanks too both of you, I was able to find a fix instead of fits of frustration. GREAT JOB !!!:)

I did provide a link to an updater but that was just from a section of SmartSound's FAQ... Research on the net shows that the SmartSound thing will pop up for lots of applications. One guy said that everytime he started notepad the SmartSound loader would pop up.

I also have a customer with a simular problem with AutoCad5000 it pops up and wants to install when he runs LOR... He cancels the request and then LOR runs fine.

Is there an install expert out there that can explain why this happens? I am just curious why these applications pop up....
