glennsgarage Posted Friday at 12:48 AM Posted Friday at 12:48 AM I'm out of ideas on what to do with my tree. I have tried connecting it with nothing else connected to the computer, I have tried new ethernet cable with no success, I have reset the controller with no luck. the software does not see the controller. the led on the controller never stops blinking. I know I'm missing something but I'm not sure what I'm missing. the tree worked awesome last season and I haven't changed anything. any ideas? Thank you Glenn Boden
TheDucks Posted Friday at 01:12 AM Posted Friday at 01:12 AM Have you tried Both RJ45 jacks? the pins may be bent or spidy infested Quote Does HU see the controller? Do you have another (even the old Black), USB adapter? (HU can use the Black, it is the show that needs the speed of the Red.)
glennsgarage Posted Sunday at 04:35 PM Author Posted Sunday at 04:35 PM pixie 16 controller. I have tried both RJ45 jacks and I have tried to it on the aux a with the red connector and aux b with the high speed connector. both of which are set to 500. the 10 other controllers work great.
glennsgarage Posted Sunday at 04:38 PM Author Posted Sunday at 04:38 PM I have also tried connecting with new cat5 cable, and directly to the computer
glennsgarage Posted Sunday at 04:40 PM Author Posted Sunday at 04:40 PM the HU does not see the controller

Do you mean directly to the Ethernet LAN connection on your computer? Or do you mean directly into the RJ-45 port of a USB to RS-485 adapter that is plugged into your computer? The Pixie controller uses RS-485 communication and is NOT compatible with an Ethernet LAN. In some cases, plugged RS-485 into an Ethernet LAN connection can cause the magic blue smoke to be released - however if you plugged a Pixie directly into your computer Ethernet LAN connection, you likely did not cause any hardware failure.
glennsgarage Posted yesterday at 12:33 AM Author Posted yesterday at 12:33 AM I know this. I have 10 other controllers mostly pixies. I connected to the red connector via the usb to the computer and the LOR software pro level. I disconnected my other ethernets that are connected to the high speed adapters. yes red and black. I would not connect directly to the computer. good grief

It's not and will only cause confusion. The cable is Cat-5 or Cat-5E or Cat-6 or Cat-7. The connectors are properly called 8P8C, but almost always referred to incorrectly as RJ-45. I'm not trying to put you down, but LOTS of people make the mistake of plugging LOR devices into Ethernet devices and under the wrong set of circumstances can leak out the magic blue smoke. You may know the difference and what you meant, but some newbee may not.
glennsgarage Posted yesterday at 01:03 AM Author Posted yesterday at 01:03 AM Well other than you correcting every response that I make, you are really of no help here. I have tested the power to the board and it is at 12 volts. all fuses are good as they all ohm out. With no help here, I ordered a new replacement pixie 16 board and expedited the shipping. I will send the pixie 16 I have in for repair to Light o Rama.

Geez, many folks around here would get put into the Mod Que if they responded that way toward folks on here that were just trying to be helpful.
dgrant Posted yesterday at 10:46 AM Posted yesterday at 10:46 AM To the OP, yes, we are only trying to offer you suggestions that most of us have experienced ourselves. None of us is perfect but for the best answers, we need the best information. So, please, give us a break. I don't have any pixie controllers so I'm not informed as such on them. Are there any jumpers on it that need to be reconfigured? Those RJ45 connector pins can easily get pushed in and stuck so I'd be looking there. Bad cables is always a possibility but I think you said you checked that. I'm not sure this could come into play but one wild thought might be your firewall is possibly trying to block that path. Not sure it would but hey, check it out just in case. Past all that, if you still cannot figure it out, I suggest you open an LOR Support ticket and see if they can assist you. Again, I don't own any pixie controllers so truly I do not know what it might be.
