htebault
I used 6.2.18 for my Christmas shows in December 2023. I just tried to update my Win7 system to 6.3.0 and found apparently the 6.x LOR is intended to support Win10/11 only... I had missed that in the release notes apparently. Well, having used Win7 for many years and 6.2.18 was working. I had to remove 6.3.0 and restored 6.2.18 and my LOR is working again... I have made no changes to the show, so the newer version has no benefit to me. It is disappointing to loose support, but guess it was time...
Don
Lose support? You mean from an OS level, or from a LOR not supporting you and the version your running?
k6ccc
Yes, it was pretty well publicized that S6 requires Windows 10 or higher. And "Computer System Requirements" is in large bold on the software download page - and also referenced elsewhere on the page. It states that Windows 10/11 is required. You had to scroll passed that in order to get to the download link. In other words, you ignored that information that was right in front of you. Keep in mind that Windows 7 is almost 20 years old and was end of Microsoft support four and a half years ago. There is very little legitimate reason to continue running windows 7 - and a lot of reasons NOT to run Windows 7 anymore. As for S6, there are some substantial improvements and added capabilities over S5. BTW, S6 also works fine on Windows Server 2019. Not that that is overly useful to most people, but I run my show under it for about nine months of the year.

Not that that is overly useful to most people, but I run my show under it for about nine months of the year. Unfortunately there are older computers that won't run Windows 10/11. I have an older computer that has this problem. Tried installing Windows 10, and got a message "this computer can not run Windows 10". And this is my main sequencing computer. So that's why it's still running Windows 7. Even though my License covers the newer LOR Software I can't use it on my older sequencing desktop computer. Fortunately I do have a newer laptop that has Windows 10(11?) on it. Don't recall, as I haven't used it very much since I bought the laptop. So I have the newest version, but I just hate how difficult it is to try and download anything on the laptop. Honestly I still haven't figured it out yet. As that's something I tried after it updated everything after I first got it. Kind of the reason I don't bother with it much. Microjunk just keeps making things more and more difficult to use their Windows software, seems every upgrade it JUST GETS WORSE, NOT BETTER!🤬🤬🤬 Sometimes I'd prefer we still had DOS over Windows, just seems I could actually do much, much more with DOS, than with Window's based systems. Too me Windows just screwed computers up for the worse, not better, especially with every newer version of Windows.😠😡🤬 But that's just my opinion.🙂
ItsMeBobO
Did you not sleep last night Orville? Downloading to laptop is a normal thing which should not be hard. Next time you try to DL there and its too slow you can ask here or PM me for assistance. You should be able to use the desktop monitor, desktop mouse, desktop keyboard with the laptop with a KVM switch to help you transition. If you cant retire old windows machines you need to keep good backups and the virus protection up to date. I suggest just using it offline until you need to move a file. Move your bill pay, news, spreadsheet, personal docs, over to the laptop and use the dinoSeven just for LOR. Dont risk your hard work and lose your stuff. You and I are the same age Orville! You might be just a little bringing down our average on the grumpy old man scale! Its not just Windows which forces change on us. Spread the angst love and carry on! I can't get that dad blasted laptop to download anything because I just can't seem to locate any software on it that has the simple, easy download capabilities I've been used to for years, right click, get download prompt, select folder to download to, save file-DONE. Tried searching the Windows help files without success. It's been extremely frustrating with it. I'm using the older system for sequencing, but also trying to set my old S4 sequences up for a transition to the LOR 6 format to hopefully use S6.3.0 that I plan to install on the laptop, but even using an SD USB Card reader/writer and SD Card to transfer my files hasn't worked. And I have older to brand new USB SD Card Reader/Writers and can't get the laptop to even recognize them or a memory stick I've tried. I've always been computer and tech savvy, but Win10/11 have been nothing but migraine makers for me. If you know how to make Win10/11 recognize these devices, I'd like to know the trick. BTW: I have 3 external USB Hard Drives and the laptop doesn't want to recognize them either, I have a 5TB and two 2TB external drives. Work fine on my antiquated desktop with Windows 7, but with 10 or 11, seems to be a no go. And I can't really find a reason why none of the USB Devices want to work on it. Thanks for any help. P.S. I only sleep no more than about 2 hours a night/day. Always been this way since I was a young lad.😁🤣🤣 Edited August 27 by Orville

(what brand and model) But first, run SFC /scannow (as admin prompt) check and repair your Windows install. (SFC is system file check) I just had my 2001 Toshiba refuse to find my router. MS installed a driver. I used device manger to replace it with the Realtech one that was on the system 👍

There is only one USB Device it will recognize, and that's a USB wireless mouse. But it won't recognize anything else USB, and it only has 1 USB Port on it(that I could find). It's a DELL Laptop, I'll have to locate the model info/type.

Around 2000, they had 2 or 3 (I plugged in a hand scanner and a Number pad (the keyboard was compact) without issue and rolled the cart around the store, doing inventory and price control (the cheaper way) I use (Off lease, refurbed) Dell Optiplex (their business line) desktops. In the past, Dell sometimes uses custom drivers for some things. Go to Dell support page and enter your 'Service Tag' (on a black sticker someplace) when asked. M$ version drivers are not always the best.

My work Dell laptop has two USB-A and one USB-C port and my personal Dell laptop has three USB-A and one USB-C ports. Both also have an HDMI, µSD, LAN, Audio, and power ports. So many ports that I ended up putting P-Touch labels on the top above each port since most of the time I'm plugging stuff in more by feel than sight. M$ version drivers are not always the best. And I just bought this one in 2023, supposedly brand new from Amazon. So it's only a year old, but I only find one USB port on it. I do have a powered hub on my Desktop, looks like I'm going to have to buy a 2nd powered hub to do anything on the laptop. The powered hub on my Desktop is kind of a strange configuration, it has 7 switched data ports and 4 switched charging/power ports. 11 ports in total. Just thought it was odd having an odd number of ports like 11, instead of an even number like 10 or 12. Wish I could use my PCI USB Card in the desktop, but it's too tall for the case.🙁. And, of course it won't fit in the laptop. If it would have fit inside the Dell Desktop, I'd have used the PCI USB Card, which would give me 6 USB on the Motherboard and 6 on the PCI Card, then I could have relegated the powered hub to the laptop. Nope, going to have to purchase another hub for the laptop to use all the USB Devices I need on it. Haven't had a chance to do anything with the laptop yet, pulled it out, but battery was very weak, so it's charging. Once that's charged up, I'll run the SFC Scan on it and see if that will fix the recognizing USB Devices. Fingers crossed it's something simple to correct. TheDucks
Oh! You have a small form factor case. They make 1/2 height cards for those, but they usually only have 2 ports (or take 2 slots wide). Also USB3 cards need a inside Power cable (like a disc uses. be sure to get the correct style 😬 I got the wrong one and then discoverd that Dell Dimension had no spare drive connectors...2 drive, 2 connectors 🙄) 7 ports is normal (think 8) for hubs. the 8th is the INPUT. The charging port count is probably because they used a standard use connector cluster. I just got a new Ethernet switch with 2 ports of 2.5G and 5 of 10/100/1G (I suspect it is really 2 switches internally connected). I discovered my Xfinity Router had a 2.5G port (red stripe), so that goes to my Data closet, where the switch now resides that feeds various rooms.
