DMX Prop Numbering

Recommended Posts

I am trying to divide this prop from Gilbert Engineering into 5 strings (4 strings of 150 and 1 string of 130). When I go into the custom prop screen and click divide pixels into strings it does the first 1-150 correctly, but, it changes pixels going forward starting with 1001. I want the next pixel on the sting to be 151 -300 and sequential going forward for the remaining strings. I am lost on how to do this. Anyone figured this out?

Cheers!

@xtremeone

Select "Enter channel on first row, auto-number the rest"
Check "Separate Universe for each RGB string"

Type in the start Universe that you configured in your controller. Then type in the start Channel.
It should now auto populate all 5 universes.

Just remember that 1-1000 is universe 1. 1001 to 2000 universe 2. And so on. If you want it to be pixel 150 and then pixel 151, you will need to get that string on the same universe as universe 1. But then you may may have voltage drop due to a really long string of pixels. Over all, your prop looks like it's correctly built from your picture. You will use 5 ports\universes  on your controller. I assume the controller is set up correctly??

Really cool prop by the way!!

I don't normally use custom prop arrangements, but it did exactly what you asked it to do - you just didn't know it.  Each physical string as far as the custom prop arrangement has numbers starting in blocks of 1000.  That way you can easily tell one string from another in that arrangement.  Then as gsmith said, each string gets assigned in the channel assignment part.

Super tiny pic for old eyes, but it looks correct. You have the 5 universes and each has a start channel of 1. I would say your network for it is configured correctly. Which I assume your controller is set up correctly as well?

Pop some lights into it and let's see it in action!

BTW you will need to install the lights in the same exact order as you designed it in the customize light placement editor. If not, they will light up any and every way possible except for what you want.

Jim @k6cccpointed me in the right direction on that one.
