jphauck Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 I have one CTB16PC controller that when plugged in all appears to come on and work. If I plug a network cable in the port the LED green flashing light goes solid - both ports. But I can not find the unit when using Hardware Updater even if I extend the search to the full level. I have tried everything I can think of and am at a loss about what to do. Good news this is one of a couple sapre controllers, so I am not impacting my show at all. I welcome any suggestions from the forum gurus before opening a ticket with the LOR Help Desk. Thanks - and hope all your shows are going greatl
PhilMassey Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 My two ac boxes were acting in a similar way after a thunderstorm near the end of last season. I replaced the small socketed comm chips. Fixed them right up.

jphauck Posted November 26, 2022 Author Posted November 26, 2022 Thanks Dibblejr. I actually label all my controllers each year so I know what channel and firmware. So I did try just putting the channel in and no go. I even tried saying it was the only controller so just update for firmware. No go. I am baffled.
TheDucks Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 Steady Green, says it is listening fine (heart beat). As Phil points out, Storms can damage parts Hardware updater? Do you mean Hardware Utility (HU) ? Or were you trying a firmware update (not a good plan this close to showtime unless instructed). Is it possible your Com port shifted (the pull down will show all available, including legacy serial) and you are asking on the wrong one now?
jphauck Posted November 26, 2022 Author Posted November 26, 2022 These have not even gone outside yet. I built everything inside this year. Due to weather and work I have not had a day to get it outside. So i was checking all unit firmware as a general practice. Works for me every year. Like good housekeeping. I will keep poking around. I have tried all these suggestions so far. First time I have seen this in my 12 years on LOR>
TheDucks Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 One more Q Was this a Single controller ATTACHED or a part of a chain? There have been reports of mixed FW leve in a chain issues
randyf Posted November 27, 2022 Posted November 27, 2022 This is where I would think that the COM port you are trying isn't the one the CTB16PC is connected to. Verify that the port listed in the Networks panel (assuming you are using 6.1.4 as suggested in your profile) is the one you are trying in the HU. If more than one COM port scan each one. While the HU doesn't care, CTB16PC's cannot be on an enhanced network, so also make sure the Network Settings for that port have "Use Enhanced LOR" off. I've also heard rumors of an FTDI update, so you might also verify that your USB Serial Port drivers are up to day (via Windows Device Manager). You might also try to unplug all LOR interfaces except one; find out from the device manager which COM port that is, and connect only the CTB16PC to that port and try again with the Control Panel HU; and failing that, close the CP, and open only the HU and try again.
