S6 Live Player Cue positions

6.1.2  There are a few quirks to these buttons.   Some are positionally associated with the Cue List and some are not.

The /\  Move up  and the \/  Move down  know which entry is selected and does the swap.

However the + always inserts at the bottom.  Its doesn't honor the current position which would insert below the selected Cue entry.

The ->|   play 'next' is funky.  Is this suppose the play the next song in the Cue list from the entry which is playing?    While playing, the Cue list allows a click to any other non-playing entry.    The play next button jumps to the one after the selected Cue Entry, not the playing entry.   It honors the position.  I suggest the play next programmatically select the playing entry before advancing to the next one.

Sorry to be a nit.   I think the "PLAY NEXT" should only do anything IF one is playing.  The way it works now, if none are playing and you select #2 (not to play)  then when you click ->|    it begins playing the one after the selected one.    When none are playing I suggest the play next be inactive.   In that case click the play button of the one you want to play instead the one above the one you want to play.  The AutoFollow also has some weirdness.   AutoFollow plays the next entry,  even if another has the focus, unless a setting has been changed and saved.  Then the autofollow plays the entry after the entry which was changed instead of the one after the playing one.

This one is weird... When an entry is playing,  and you want to 'live' move one up to play next.   You click it, then at the top use the arrows to move it to the position after the playing one. It remains in focus.  Then the player in auto-follow skips the actual next one (from the one playing) and plays the one after the one you just moved which has the focus.

Would it be possible to optionally wrap back around to the top of the Cue List?  This means when playing (with auto follow) as well as when clicking play next.   The cue list is a 'rotation order'   not just a set to play to the end once.

Using the Live show will have many moments where the panel is not attended.  "Auto-Follow"  means the show wont stop when not attended unless its the last song.    Wrap to top means it goes until intentionally stopped, instead of stopping at the end of a set and scrambling to restart when you notice dead air.

Bob,

Thanks for the detailed feedback! I have made the following changes to the Live Player mode:

  • the "+" button now inserts cues after the selected row, making it easier to add cues anywhere in your list.
  • if there is a cue that is currently playing, clicking the Play Next button will play the cue after the one that is currently playing, regardless of selection. Otherwise it will play the cue after the one that is selected.
  • it is no longer possible to edit the cue list while any cue is playing. This should prevent the weirdness you were seeing while simultaneously playing and editing the list.

The Play Next button will continue to be enabled when no cue is playing because, in a theater setting, we want the user to start the first cue, then continue clicking the Play Next button whenever appropriate without having to search for the appropriate cue item in the list.

We may implement auto-follow on the last cue at a later time.

Matt

  • 2 weeks later...

A new version was released a few days ago because the last one from December had expired.   There are several code changes in there for S6 but we are still not there.   In case you are not aware,  miip opens a LOR file to obtain the installed version.  Some things it does vary between S3, S4 & S5.   I point this out so you know the intention is to support all LOR versions in use and take the actions appropriate for the installed version.

At present miip just does not work for S6.   In the next miip release it will issue a warning to those with S6 that it is not yet supported.
