5 volt 2811 pixels

Building a new tree using 5 volt 2811 pixels can i run 100 pixels per string without power injection never used 5 volt pixels ?

NO, not really. they draw 6A typically (all white), which exceeds the port (older pixies did not all have port level fuses) fuse on LOR controllers

Largely yes.  You may need to bring the levels down below 100% - both for current limit and also voltage drop at the end of the strings.  My tree is 100 pixel strings at 5V and am currently set to 30%.  If I get much more than that, the end of the strings don't look quite right when full white.  One of these days, I may add power injection so I can push the levels up a little (it's pretty damn bright as it is).

I crank up the voltage on the PSU to about 1/2 the typical positive tolerance .

5.1 for a 5V  (typ 5%)

12.7 for the 12V (typ 10%)

As I told my engineer: "who ever heard of a negative voltage drop?". (I was doing 'Backplane and Distribution" for a telecom project.)
