Discovered why AC controller not communicating

The com chip is blown right out of its socket!   And one jack is all mangled.  I have no memory of that controller going out last winter.   I do have a spare to swap out but this one was mounted into a controller stand with two others with custom wiring.     Could a rodent have pulled that chip out like that?  Case was closed and not on the ground.  I dont see any other wire chews.  Just the jack and chip.

Looks to me like something or someone pulled on the chip and got it partially out of the socket. You should be able to carefully straighten out the legs and reinsert the chip back in place.

My friend, if you cant find one locally you may need to ask LOR if they will send you a comm chip for that unit. I'm pretty sure you are capable of changing that with your background.

They are extremely difficult to pull out. Not sure how that could have happened without persuasion.

Some force must have pulled or pushed it out.  That controller is already back in the shed and replaced with a spare.   I'll get to it in the spring.

I would say a possible  Snagged (cuz I see no carbon)  by a cable, for the chip, But that RJ45 is smoked.

No rodent is gonna flip a socket chip. Chew marks, absolutely except they usually want the most Pricey one :P

Bob snip the remnants of the pins on the fried jax , the remove the chip carefully  and straighten the pins, then reinsert.

If that unit functions, it is good for an End of Chain (only 1 cable) position

Ovbiously the comm chip is an issue but that fried comm port looks like a lightning strike too me as well. You can replace the port easily but I'd be looking on the reverse for fried traces.
