What is the difference between unit ID, a port and a channel?

In addition to Don's link

Port is where you connect lights. (For AC controllers, this is also a 'Channel.)  For Dumb, CMB-24: A Port is a made up of 3 channels :RGB. You can use/sequence these either as channels or RGB.

For Pixels: Port is the connection point. Each Node (light) is multiple channels (RGB), so a string of 50 Nodes will be 150 Channels.

Node is the smallest individual lamp unit you can control. Strips, this might be 3 LEDS per cut point. for Bullets, this is 1 Bulb

You can only assign 1 ID per BOARD. For Dumb controllers, this is one and the same.

For Smart controllers (mostly Pixiel), You assign the Base or first ID. The board inherits the next N as needed. A Pixie8 use 8, Base+7 more. In this case Each Port gets an ID which you can NOT change by itself. FWIW This trips up beginners. 1)ID is in HEX , 2)Assigning another controller, they fail to allow for the consumed ID's
