Orville
If I lived on an extremely busy road, I'd probably only do Animations with no music. Now if there is enough room for folks to pull off the road and park, either along the sides of the road or on the shoulder, then a musical show could be done. It all depends on how wide the road is, how straight or curved it is, speed limit of the road, where your display is located and can be seen driving by{animation} and whether or not there is any way for a visitor to park and view your show{musical}. All kinds of factors to think about on deciding what kind of show to do, Animation or Musical.
Wayne K
I live on a very busy street. It is Main Street in town here and is a US highway in NE Indiana. I have worried about traffic for a long time. There is a passing lane that starts to the north of my property for a McDonalds on the other side of the road. And I do have people that will stop in front of the house in that lane and watch. They also go to the McDonalds and park in the farthest 2 spots to the west that actually faces my house. So I have actually added some props including 1 of my singing trees facing that way on the South East side of the house. They also back / park in the neighbors drive ways. Which I do have good neighbors, I have only had 1 problem where someone backed into the neighbors house and missed the drive and parked in there front yard and made ruts in it. I am not sure there is a good answer to your question. I guess I would say start small and see how things work with the traffic. Here in my town my display is well known and people kind of know to watch around my neighborhood at Christmas time, but it is all of the passing thru traffic and truck traffic that may get surprised when someone is stopped on the side of the road. One good thing is that traffic drops off going into the evening hours. Wayne
jfuller8400
If it's a really busy road I would at least think about talking to your local authorities. Sometimes they can be supportive and have suggestions to help manage traffic (although it may also open a can of worms...)
dgrant
I too live on a busy neighborhood street. Get people lined up a short ways but most are respectful of my neighbors.
