Delay between sequences. S5 5.5.14

I am seeing quite a bit of delay between sequences. Knowing the sequences, i can tell the delay getting longer based on the size of the sequence. I believe I ran 5.2.4 last year with no delay. My sequence sizes are pretty much the same size as last year. Here is a log from the control panel. Anyone else seeing this delay? Any ideas?

Some additional information. This show has already been compressed. If a sequence is not compressed the delay is several minutes to make the compressed file. The compressed sequences are between 200 meg and 700 meg.

Doug, did you downgrade to 5.1.2 - or is your forum profile way out of date?

Are you saying that the .play.lms files in the LORInternal directory structure are 200-700 MB?  That may be part of your problem.  Mine are on the order of 3KB - but the .play.lms.pe.lid files are up to 400MB.  But I sequence essentially everything in SuperStar, so it's all part of the .lid file.

I ran a very short test last night (mainly to see that the lights that have been installed and hooked up are working - they are), but it was not long enough to see what you were seeing.  I will test either later this afternoon or tonight.

Quick answer is that I am seeing delays between songs.  I have the show running long enough that it will get well into the second run through.  We'll see if it changes after the first pass...

I have added a line space during the gaps to make them easy to spot.  The only thing in a Verifier scan on this show that is not perfect is a couple channels that are always off (correctly).

So I am speculating that the THX sequence is the largest of those sequences.

When the log says "Checking S5 sequence" - that means the entire LOREDIT file is being read. I'm looking now to see if that can be optimized.

OK, ran the show for about 90 minutes - which almost got through the show twice.  Here is what I observed.  The checking and delays occurred on the first pass through the show only.  Once it was into the second pass, there was no delay.  One thing I should have pointed out is that this show was compressed yesterday and ran (only got most of the way through the startup sequence).  Also I have the option set to load sequences as needed.

Matt, one other thing I saw right at the end of the log after the show concluded.  The Show Player did a restart.  Is that something new?  I don't ever remember seeing that before - but I see it at the end of my landscaping show too.  Because of that, I included the details on the computers involved at the bottom of this novel in case it would be helpful.

There are two networks on this computer.  One is the Show network, and the other is one of the house networks (and most likely what it using to communicate with the file server - although the server has both networks available).  Both networks on the show computer and all three on the file server are running at 1 Gb/s and are connected to same managed LAN switch (different VLANs internal to the switch).

It did work as you observed. I ran the show all night long. It ran through once and checked each sequence, after that it stopped checking the sequence. I shut down the show and immediately started it back up again and it started checking each sequence again. Problem with that for me is I have 85 sequences. The show never finishes each night so it will be continually checking the sequences. 

Hopefully Matt will come up with something.

Load all 85 sequences into a single show. Play that show once. While doing so just unplug your cat cable from your USB485 connector and your show will play on the computer but now on the physical lights (that way people don’t see). It will load all 85 sequences and check them all and compress them all and all that good stuff.  As I am assuming your show is not up and running yet you should be able to do this. It should only take about 4-5 hours to run this show.

 

Then after you are done just re enable your good schedule and plug back in hour cables and you should be golden.

This is exactly what I did yesterday. The problem is as soon as the show stops and then starts again it checks each sequence again.

I ran a trial last night. Firstly I deleted all the LORointernal play back files. There were multiple versions in there and I'm OCD about that.

Ran Sequence Compressor to make the PLAY and LCS files for all of my 56 sequences.

Made a show file of 15 sequences with the largest file sizes. The  biggest is just under a GB. The smallest of the group of 15 was 300 MB.

Ran the show on demand twice. The show did not have to remake any PLAY or LCS files but it did check each LORedit file every song first and second pass.

The check took about 6 seconds for the largest file and about 2 seconds for the smallest on both passes.

I also do not remember seeing that last year after the BIG delay issue was fixed somewhere around 5.3.14 I think, but it is hardly noticeable on my small files but significant on the large ones.

I know that Doug has some 4GB files so I'm quite sure the delays are quite large on those.

Yeah, on my largest ones, the delay was 22 seconds on the first pass. No delay at all when the sequence played the second time.
