Controlling LED Smoke Machine with XLR input

Oh man ... I hope I am able to use multiple networks because I certainly have more than one.  Right now I am using default (my 2 older controllers) and AUX1 (Enhanced LOR for the Pixma 16).

Looks like I bought Standard software but I need at least Advanced?

Multiple networks says Advanced as minimum. If you have Pixels you might as well bite the bullet and go to Pro.

Also please update your profile with the software version and License. It helps us to know what you have.

I'm guessing that the dmx adaptor dialog will populate when you have the right level.

If you need further help we can talk on the phone.

Updated my profile.

Thanks for all your help.  It would seem my problems are license related so I have submitted a question to orders@lightorama.com ... I could have sworn I chose an upgraded version of the software when I placed my order but I guess standard is not enough for what we are trying to do.

Thanks again for your time, patience and responses.  You are obviously "the man".

So this is a little confusing ...

This pic indicates that the sequencer software is Pro ... but my receipt says standard?  Does that make sense?

Sounds like you have Pro, but it might be best to check

You could submit a help ticket, but bear in mind this is busy season, then call them tomorrow to clear up exactly what is your license status

Do you have pixels. Can you use Motion Effects, That is a Pro feature.

Yes I have pixels and I am using motion effects.

Title bar says Light-O-Rama S5 Sequencer v5.5.2 Pro

Network Preferences says

Advanced LOR Network Preferences v5.5.2 Pro

Then you should be good to go.

You do have the usb adaptor drivers installed?

If Windows has installed its own drivers the adaptor won't work.

You have to have the LOR  drivers.

Ok then circling back because we were thinking the problem was software which it appears not to be.

I am attaching two pics of my XLR Female to RJ45 work.

So first I confirmed which tech I was working with.  The RJ45 was the most common wiring.  The XLR DMX in was female.

Next I stripped the RJ45 and soldered the green to pin1, bluewhite to pin2 and blue to pin3 as shown in the pictures.

Does this work look correct?

Not sure what you mean by this.  All other controllers are working fine.  Is there a separate driver I need to download in order for the DMX universes to work?

If your other controllers work you're Ok there.

My cables are made exactly the same way.

We all use an external site to post links. The storage on here in negligible.

So I guess I am back at being at a loss as to why the adapter is not in the drop down list.

One other weird phenomena I have the power to the FOG machine one a separate power supply ... so I have it on but have my power bar that supplies the other controllers off.

As soon as I turn on that other power bar the fog machine starts going crazy spitting out fog and cycling through the RGB colors.  Almost as if it is being controlled by one of those other controllers but that is impossible.  The only controller plugged into the fog machine is the one that the system can't seem to find.

Ever seen anything like that happen?

When I start control panel my lights get a dmx signal to move to their home position.

How about we start from square one.

Label your adaptors and unplug all.

Close everything and reboot.

Open device manager and check ports.

Plug in the adaptor you are going to use for dmx

Does it appear. If so....

Start control panel

Open Net Prefs only and go to advanced mode and the dmx tab

Click on universe 1 and click the down arrow next to the adaptor

Holy smokes ... when in doubt reboot I guess.

So now I have the adapter picked up by the network.

I went into the network adapter and set it up clicked apply and ok.  Agreed to all the warnings.

Opened the Hardware Utility and chose iDMX100 - DMX ... but now I do not see where I pick my universe.  You said it would be somewhere in the center?

Can't thank you enough for the help ... I will be sure to pay it forward.

So yea ok ... You did say Pixel editor earlier ... Sorry

Chose DMX Pixel (E1.31)  for the controller type

Selected Universe 1

Nothing ...

Not sure how to change the starting address for the fog machine to 001 ... looking for help online all I saw was a picture of dip switches which this things does not have ... it has a digital console with a menu button.

Anyways ... can still hear the clicking going on but nothing is happening.

Options I have are up/down for the following:

r 001

G 001

B 001

A 001 (I am guessing this is it)

P 001

I have no idea why it is not working.  May try it through the sequencer instead of the hardware utility to see if I have any better luck.

Strange layout.  Just guessing. Try 1 thro 6 for the 6 parameters and try the first 6 sliders full range

You really need some sort of ref guide or something.

What is the full name and model.
