N4-G4-mp3 freezing during shows

I have upgraded my G3-mp3 to a N4-G4-mp3 and the new controller keeps freezing. I have upgraded the firmware and still having the issue. I also get lag on my musical sequences quite often. If I use my old g3Mp3 I don't have any issues. I was going to do Two displays this year but now one is going to be put away since I don't think I ill have this resolved until after Christmas. I run a show that is set to show 3 and runs on a schedule and two songs that are set to inputs 1 and 2 and are triggered by a push button up front. I have sent a ticket to the help desk on Nov 27 but I am wondering if anyone else has had the same issue?

Hey Dave, any updates on this from support. I'm having similar issues. I updated to 6.7 firmware thinking it'd fix it, but no luck. I'm about to move the Director in the house so I can stop going out in the rain.

I just now started experiencing the same lock up issue. G4-MP3 ran awesome for three weeks. Just now and two nights ago, it just stops and appears to display the

time it stopped on the director screen. I cycle power, and all is well. Have a ticket in help desk. Please advise. Thanks

I have been running mine every night since December 4th and I have yet to see any issues.  I have a 24x50 matrix hanging over one of the front porch windows and the Director is in between the window and the matrix so it's sheltered by the weather, other than the cold.  I can look out the window and see what song the director is on.

I also have it on a timer that turns it on and off everyday.  Of those experiencing problems, do you leave it on constantly or what?  Mine is setup to play the show anyytime the director has power.

The LOR help desk is at a loss. They suggested I replace my director.

I will, but dont think that is the issue. My show ran ever night for 15 days in a row. Then one night at 5:10 it stops and 2 nights later at 7:17 it stops. Reset power both times and all is well. Has not happened again for the last three nights. Not temperature related. Director is outside, but thats why I have it.

Believe it must be a firmware issue or power supply issue.

Thoughts?

No big deal as only running 3 more nights!

But, next year.......

I am curious to know how this turns out, as I am thinking of going to a director next year for various reasons.

Received my new G4-MP3 controller today. Sent the old one back.

Time will tell if this fixes the issue.

I've been lurking on this topic.  Glad you got a replacement and am curious how it works out.  I am thinking of upgrading from a G3-MP3 to an N4-G4-MP3 this year.

Problem is I wont know until I run my show again in 10 months!

No worries.  I'll probably go ahead and get one anyways.  Although I have never needed it, it seems like LOR product service is excellent.

Can't you run a couple of controllers w/o lights hooked for testing purposes and not have to wait till next year.

While he could do that he would not be able to see if it was laggy and would have to keep a constant watch on the controllers.

When troubleshooting in this hobby it’s best to compare apples to Apple as and have everything the same as when it was having problems.

Without a load being on the controllers it probably wouldn’t error if it is a fw problem. You’d like for everything to be equal.

I understand everything your saying. I would hate to wait 10 months only to find out that the problem is still there.  Just trying to think of a way to test w/o having to set your whole display up.

I was a component level tech for almost 40yrs. It would'nt hurt to do a bare bones test and maybe add a string of lights here and there.  Just thinking off the cuff here.   :)

Build a missing Pulse detector  ( w/555 timers ?) add a TICK channel to your sequence. If it fails to come along at the proper interval, the detector latches/counts.

The issue was that the G4-MP3 ran perfectly for about 1 month. Then randomly it would "freeze" up. Show playing would stop and G4-MP3 would display time "frozen". Then just cycle power and all is good again. This happened at three random times and is NOT weather temperature related.

Kinda difficult to simulate issue. If others have a way to do that, let me know. As at the current time I am looking to showtime NEXT YEAR to see if the new director solves the issue.

It would be sweet if there is a device out there that can send me a text if lights are frozen and then I can send a text back to system to cycle power.

THOUGHTS???
